English Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

Description

Large, detached cottage with uninterrupted views of the Cheviot Hills. Lovely setting where peacocks, red squirrels and deer wonder!

These tasteful, character holiday cottages are set within the grounds of Lemmington Hall amongst the unspoilt Northumbrian countryside. Each cottage has its own individual charm with cosy and elegant interiors carefully designed by the owner. Forge Cottage (ref MVN) is the largest, a beautiful detached cottage with uninterrupted views of the Cheviot Hills, and was formerly the stone-built home of the blacksmith of this charming country estate. The quaint and charming pair of Grade II listed, single-storey, adjoining cottages, Thimble (ref MVV) and Button (ref MVU), designed specifically for couples to offer a romantic country life experience, retaining charm and quirkiness. Peacocks wander nearby, with red squirrels and deer in the woods. The properties are ideally located to explore the abundance of visitor attractions, with Alnwick (the ducal town), only 4 miles away where a visit to the castle and enchanting water gardens is a must, not to mention the Treehouse restaurant. The Heritage Coast, with miles of golden sandy beaches, peppered with friendly villages and historic castles, is only a 20-minute drive. Shop 4 miles, pub 3 miles.

Large beamed living room with wood-burning stove. Kitchen/dining area with electric Aga (for cooking) and TV, leading to conservatory/sun room. Utility. Fully-tiled bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet. Separate toilet. Double bedroom. Twin bedroom. First floor: Two double bedrooms, each with 5ft bed, en-suite shower room with toilet, and Velux window. Countryside views from most bedrooms. Solid oak wooden floors throughout.

A wonderful stay in Forge Cottage again. Lovely to get tucked up and cosy in front of the fire. The owners who live locally were very approachable and eagar to make our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Excellent base to explore the local area!

A lovely cottage in a beautiful location. The house is generously proportioned and very comfortable. The heating is excellent and the woodburning stove works a treat. It is situated in a very secluded spot with great views out to the Cheviot hills. There is really nothing negative to say about the property, The couple of small problems we encountered whilst there were dealt with quickly and courteously by the owners. An excellent place from which to visit nearby Alnwick and the other sights of Northumbria.

Lovely quality accommodation. Well equipped kitchen and private garden. Good parking. In general we would have given this cottage a higher overall marking if it were not for the issue of cleanliness. Floors, furniture, bedding and bathrooms were all cleaned to a decent standard, but the kitchen needs a deep clean in the area around the Aga . We run a B & B in a Grade Two listed building and understand as well as anyone that things can get missed, and would have raised our issues with someone on site had we met anyone. Overall this would be a 10/10 if the cleaning issue was addressed. We would then be happy to recommend this accommodation without any reservations and would be happy to return.

Fantastic view, spacious, warm, comfortable, well located provided you have a car. Good walking from the cottage. Downsides? Bathrooms don't have mirrors for wet shaving men. The internet crawls - 500kbs max upload. And the only cooking is an Aga. We'd had one and loved it, but if you haven't you need to spend five minutes reading the intro to Mary Berry's Aga book.
