Description

Indulge in a unique holiday experience within the grounds of Leeds Castle, and enjoy free access to the castle and grounds for the whole party.

Indulge yourself in a unique holiday cottage experience within the 500-acre parkland estate at Leeds Castle, referred to as ’The loveliest castle in the world’. It is set on two islands on the River Len in the heart of the county of Kent, renowned throughout the world as ’The Garden of England’, and has been fortified for over 900 years. Originally a Norman stronghold, the private property of 6 medieval queens and a palace used by Henry VIII. In the 1930s the castle was a playground for the the rich and famous as Lady Baillie, the last private owner entertained ’high society’ down from London for the weekends. The castle now offers visitors a glimpse of a rich past with a fine collection of art, porcelain and furniture. Within the 500-acre estate are four period holiday cottages, some furnished with antiques from the castle, and handmade drapes made by the castle seamstress. The sheets on the beds are fresh crisp Egyptian cotton and a welcome pack of toiletries is provided.
Access is given enabling entry to the castle and grounds as many times as you like during your stay.
Your ticket also provides access to the Knight’s Realm playground, where children can let off steam. Climb the Maiden’s Tower, joust along the aerial runway and explore the secret tunnels! Lose yourself in the spiralling yew maze and underworld grotto of shells and mythical beasts, plus a turf maze where toddlers and smaller children can play. Take in a free flying falconry display.
Take a picnic or stroll around the gardens which you can explore long after the daily guests to the castle and grounds have gone home. Additional activities that incur an extra cost include 9-hole golf, a hot air balloon flight (1st Apr-1st Nov), Go Ape! zip wire adventure, a Segway tour, a ride on Elsie the Castleland train or hop aboard the Black Swan Ferry Boat. Then visit the castle shop for a special gift to return home with.
Keepers House, (ref 27985), formerly the gamekeeper’s house, dates back several hundred years, and is located in a hidden valley in the castle grounds. It has a courtyard which overlooks the River Len and can be booked with adjoining Weir Cottage to accommodate up to 12 guests.
Weir Cottage (ref 27987) is a perfect riverside hideaway for a couple. It was originally the game store and can be booked with adjoining Keepers House to accommodate up to 12 guests. Fishing can be arranged for Keepers House and Weir Cottage.
Knight’s Cottage (ref 27986) is a fine example of an Edwardian cottage and is located within a secluded position within the grounds of Leeds Castle and enjoys views over the vineyard and woodland.
Guests are just a stone’s throw away from the medieval-style Knights glamping site, giving guests the choice of booking friends and family into the tents.
The Guards House (ref 27988) dates back to the Regency period from around 1810, and was originally a Napoleonic soldier’s barracks. Interconnecting with neighbouring cottages, this traditional Grade ll listed Kentish cottage has thick rag stone walls and an unusual curved wooden front door.
Located 5 miles from Maidstone the cottages are ideally placed for exploring beautiful villages, historic castles, houses and market towns. Kent boasts award-winning beaches. Indulge in some local oysters at Whitstable or spot seals off Herne Bay. Canterbury with its historic cathedral is a short drive or head towards Ashford for some discounted designer retail therapy. Kent also provides good road and rail access to London for further sightseeing opportunities. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

Lovely house on the Leeds Castle estate in a beautiful location. Amenities were good but lacked some small necessities like salt and pepper, kitchen roll, cooking oil that have been available in previous similar accommodation we have stayed at (especially as there is no local shop to pop to). Would have been nice to have had a flame effect gas stove in the lounge/dining room.

My partner and I stayed at Keeper's House to celebrate my 50th birthday. It was ideal for us as it provided adequate accommodation for us along with my parents, my brother, his wife and their two sons. The top floor bedroom is a good size (although it would benefit from having a proper sofa), and has a double bed and a flat screen TV. The stairs leading to it are very narrow and incredibly steep. The first floor family room is also quite large and looks out over the front of the property. The ground floor bedroom, though small, was ideal for my parents. The ground floor bathroom was also very nice - the only slight criticism being that the roll-top bath would pose a bit of a challenge to somebody with limit mobility. The lounge / dining room is not very large, but can comfortably seat eight people and has a large, flat screen TV. It also has a long table that can seat about ten. Officially, there is only parking for two cars (plus one space for Weir Cottage), but there is easily space for six cars. We were given complimentary tickets to Leeds Castle that were valid for the duration of our stay, but I had to buy separate tickets for the small number of visitors that I had. All things considered, we had a great time and I would definately consider staying there again.

Lovely cottage in a quiet corner of the estate, but with all the facilities on the doorstep. Perfect for a family holiday.
