Description

Enjoy watching the wildlife from the garden of this grand property, which overlooks a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation.

This grand detached residence is peacefully set, with its garden overlooking a woodland Site of Importance for Nature Conservation - where guests may even spot additional visitors to the garden (including badgers and a wealth of garden birds). Lavender Cottage offers delightful accommodation, and has a real ‘home from home’ feel - being full of character with beams on the ground floor, a multi-fuel stove in the living room and a warming Aga in the family kitchen. The village of Bursledon sits on the River Hamble which runs into Southampton Water and the Solent. Many sailing schools are based nearby, or for visitors who have their own small boat, there is hard standing at the cottage and a public launching hard at nearby Swanwick. The village also has a fully restored working flour windmill, which can be seen in action, and visitors are able to buy flour to make their own bread! Walks can be enjoyed along the river, and Hamble common has 55 acres of coastal heath land for nature and wildlife lovers. A short drive leads to many different destinations for day trips for all to enjoy - including Southampton and Portsmouth for good shops and maritime history, the cathedral city of Winchester and the New Forest National Park with its famous ponies, great for walks and cycling. Visit Hamble-le-Rice, (more commonly known as Hamble), a pretty seaside village with cobbled streets, independent shops and restaurants, and harbour with passenger ferries across the estuary to Warsash. Alternatively, the ferry can be taken to the Isle of Wight, or the capital city of London is just over an hour by train. Lavender Cottage is only 10 minutes from Southampton airport and station. Beach 1 mile. Shop and pub 300 yards.

The house suited us well for a largish family group. Summer facilities like barbecue and ourside space were nice. The house was well appointed with kitchen acutetriments and there was more than enough leisure/group sitting space. The only issues were the beds and level of up keep. It's a big house the latter would be a challenge but there are cobwebs and well not to put too fine a point on it it is obvious that the previous occupant had just moved and left everything behind, the bed in the main on suite was not good I spent much time doing my best not to fall out of it as it sloped alarmingly to the floor, a little bit of work and this could be a stunning house to stay in. As it is it is just fabulous! Even so we would stay again but would arrive with hope that some of the clutter was gone and the beds were renewed.

Very pleased with this lovely cottage, all 8 of us thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was plenty big enough and the gardens were beautiful. It was fully equipped with everything you could possibly need and very comfortable and homely. A lovely stand of fruit was left for our arrival... very nice touch. Would definately recommend and stay again. Thank-you.

We spent a weekend at the cottage for a family wedding. The cottage was wonderful - it was so big it felt more like a mansion. Our children couldn't believe how many rooms there were, plus the garden was beautiful and even had a waterfall and a pond with huge fish (the pond was covered with netting so wasn't a safety hazard). The main master bedroom was absolutely huge with a wonderful walk in dressing room which I absolutely loved. All of the furnishings were tasteful and well kept. The kitchen had a great dishwasher where the amount of time left to go was displayed in blue light on the kitchen floor. Every room seemed to have a sky box! The conservatory was wonderful overlooking the garden and a great place to have our breakfast. A high chair and cot were provided for our 2 year old and whilst we had to keep an eye on the little ones because the house was so big they absolutely loved it and can't wait to go back. There was lots of room for parking on the driveway. All in all one of the best cottages we've stayed in.

Set in a quite area, but not far from main attractions, this cottage is ideal for the larger family or group get-together. What is says in the brochure is what you get, with extras thrown in. Geared both for able bodied and disabled people, with 4 bedrooms, 3 bedrooms, 2 lounges, a stair lift and a large conservatory, it is very accommodating. Well tended gardens and a large patio area allow for BBQ's, relaxing, or working off the extra pounds in the garage games room.

This was a holiday for three generations and the cottage and its location was perfect for all of us. The gardens were superb and we enjoyed table tennis tournaments in the enormous garage, which the rain couldn't spoil. The cottage was spotlessly clean and equipped to the very highest standard.
