This grand detached residence is peacefully set, with its garden overlooking a woodland Site of Importance for Nature Conservation - where guests may even spot additional visitors to the garden (including badgers and a wealth of garden birds). Lavender Cottage offers delightful accommodation, and has a real ‘home from home’ feel - being full of character with beams on the ground floor, a multi-fuel stove in the living room and a warming Aga in the family kitchen. The village of Bursledon sits on the River Hamble which runs into Southampton Water and the Solent. Many sailing schools are based nearby, or for visitors who have their own small boat, there is hard standing at the cottage and a public launching hard at nearby Swanwick. The village also has a fully restored working flour windmill, which can be seen in action, and visitors are able to buy flour to make their own bread! Walks can be enjoyed along the river, and Hamble common has 55 acres of coastal heath land for nature and wildlife lovers. A short drive leads to many different destinations for day trips for all to enjoy - including Southampton and Portsmouth for good shops and maritime history, the cathedral city of Winchester and the New Forest National Park with its famous ponies, great for walks and cycling. Visit Hamble-le-Rice, (more commonly known as Hamble), a pretty seaside village with cobbled streets, independent shops and restaurants, and harbour with passenger ferries across the estuary to Warsash. Alternatively, the ferry can be taken to the Isle of Wight, or the capital city of London is just over an hour by train. Lavender Cottage is only 10 minutes from Southampton airport and station. Beach 1 mile. Shop and pub 300 yards.
