No internet as stated ,pub is not as close as stated and owner wanted more money from us as was cold ,couldn't put the heating on when wanted she has full control yet wanted an additional 25 extra and my children was cold then ended up taking more money saying when leaving i needed to pay winter fee, hot tub was shared and not right outside the cottage ,some things was dusty and when said about children been cold owner replied what do you want me to do giving me 5 small blocks of wood that burned for 20 mins ,there were logs but far too big to burn ,hospitality was awful ,wouldn't visit again sadly, nice views from the living room and nice cottage and will say bed was very comfy.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; I am sorry these guests did not enjoy their half-term break at Laskill Grange. I really feel as they had no transport that impacted greatly on their stay. We are in a very rural location and having 2 children to entertain is very challenging without a car. The heating is 6am – 10am and then 3pm – 10pm, this has been in operation for the last 25 years, sadly it was very cold at the time, being mid-February and on The North Yorkshire Moors, I feel this was to be expected. A wood-burning stove is provided in the cottage with sufficient fuel for 2 days, the logs were perfectly fit for purpose. Further logs are available to purchase. The cottage is at low-season prices which are very reasonable so I think it perfectly acceptable to be asked to pay a small charge to have the heating on 24 hours; this was offered as a goodwill gesture, but declined. The standard Winter Fuel Charge for a short break as described on the website is £15; to have the heating on 24 hours would have increased this charge to £25. The hot tub, as described is a shared facility, the family made good use of it during their stay with no complaints. As stated on the website, WI-FI is available but cannot be guaranteed, the family were offered the option of using the Lounge in the main farmhouse to be assured of a WI-FI connection. Our local village pub is sadly closed for refurbishment; with no transport once again you are isolated. Regrettably, I think Laskill was totally unsuitable for this family’s needs.

A lovely cottage in beautiful countryside but a bit remote. Well equipped for self catering. Peaceful and quiet, lots of little birds around. 2 miles to the nearest pub! Had great days out in Whitby, Staithes, York and Thirsk. Didn't venture out at night time as it needed the car. Disappointed with the hot tub as it was not in our garden but about 20 yards away which meant tripping over to it in swimwear and towel. Used it once which was great but the next time it was scalding hot and we couldn't use it. All in all a very nice Cottage, too remote for us though and the WiFi was an absolute joke as was the phone signal. If you NEED WiFi do not book Laskill grange i.e.Smithy Cottage,
