Within the historic Leahurst Estate this large, immaculate property is the perfect venue for a special gathering of friends or family.

Lamp Cottage is an immaculate stone detached holiday property set in parkland where sheep and deer roam and is located in the grounds of the historic Leahurst Estate, the former summer residence of Florence Nightingale and her family. It is approached down a private driveway through a meadow and a gate leading to a gravelled parking area. A large oak porch leads into this delightful accommodation where furnishings and fittings are of the a highest quality and spectacular unspoiled south west facing views across the Amber Valley make this the most unique of properties. The property is entered into via a large entrance hall, off which are the main reception rooms. To the rear of the hall, through double glazed doors, is the fully equipped kitchen which is open to the south facing conservatory style dining area that has some occasional seating and fold back glazed doors opening onto a large wrap around patio. A large teak table and chairs, a custom steel barbecue and a well-stocked herb garden cater for any alfresco dining requirements, in addition to sun loungers, spacious lawns and stunning views. The living room, situated at the rear with comfy seating and doors opening onto patio and lawn, features a wall-mounted wood-burning stove creating a truly relaxing atmosphere. There is a further study/TV room with board games and seating and a cloakroom. The stairs lead to the open gallery landing giving access to the bedrooms. Gardens and meadowland surround the property and there are also footpaths from the doorstep. Within a mile of the property is the World Heritage site that houses the world’s first water-powered cotton spinning factories and just under 4 miles is the delightful town of Matlock Bath boasting smart riverside cafés and bars. Slotted in between are more traditional pubs, restaurants, tea shops and ice cream parlours. Here visitors can experience a cable car ride up the dramatic face of the gorge The Heights of Abraham and admire the views of ‘Little Switzerland’ as Byron once described this area. Shop and pub ¼ mile.

Overall very good - there could have been a bit more cutlery - just enough forks for 8 people but not enough for dessert as well without washing up in between courses when some was already in the dishwasher. (A minor point). Gilly was very helpful. We were rather concerned about the temperature in the conservatory, it was a very hot week and when we returned it was steaming hot - there were no shutters or blind on the main windows in the conservatory. As it was September, we were able to cool it down but thought that in similar weather in July and August it would be unbearable and wondered if anyone else had brought this up. No visitors' book which is helpful to see previous guests recommendations. However, a lovely property.

Loved the cottage, absolutely beautiful. Gilly was extremely helpful and answered any questions we had very promptly. The cottage was also spotlessly clean.

Had a wonderful week away in Lamp Cottage the pictures do not do it justice at all. The cottage is set in a beautiful location and the views on any weather day are glorious. The cottage itself is so homely, specious, well equipped and catered for all our needs from 10 years old to 79 years young. All the local attractions are within a short drive making it easy to visit several places in a day. Overall it was lovely coming back at the end of a busy day to a place we felt like home and to our daily visitor The Peacock. Thank you for a lovely memorable week we look forward to returning next year.

We loved our stay. The cottage is gorgeous and so cosy for a rainy weekend in February! Would highly recommend.

We had a brilliant week over Christmas at lamp cottage with all the family! Lots of space and especially loved the large kitchen and dining area for us all to gather whilst cooking meals. The children particularly loved the deep bath tub in the bathroom. Lovely walks from the front door to go on and saw some deer roaming about which was magical for the children! Great butchers just a few hundred metres away. Would definitely recommend for large or extended family holidays.

Fantastic family holiday to celebrate my Dad's 70th birthday at Lamp Cottage. Nobody wanted to leave & we would definitely stay here again, Charlie my 9 year nephew especially loved having his own little TV room downstairs which became his snug. Loved waking up to views of the countryside complete with sheep & deer's. Fantastic little shop at the top of the drive, very compact but full of tasty home made goodies if you fancy a BBQ or eating in :O)
