Description

In a courtyard setting, and close to Hereford, great walking and cycling in the area, Forest of Dean and Puzzlewood are nearby.

Merry (ref 28467) and Pippin (ref 28468) are semi-detached holiday cottages, situated within a courtyard setting and within the grounds of the owner’s home and adjacent working farm on the B4348. The properties are approximately 5 miles from the cathedral city of Hereford, with its Mappa Mundi Centre and chained library, shopping and theatre. Ideally located to visit the pretty market towns of Ross-on-Wye, Ledbury, famous for its poetry festival, and Hay-on-Wye, renowned for its literary festival and known as the ’Book Capital of the World’. The area offers great walking, cycling, horse riding, fishing and golfing. The Forest of Dean has wildlife in abundance and many picnic sites, with Puzzlewood and Go Ape making for great day trips. Symonds Yat and Yat Rock, where peregrine falcons nest, are popular with climbers and offer stunning views down the Wye Valley. There are many places of historical interest to visit, such as castles, cathedrals and National Trust houses. Shop and restaurant 1½ miles, pub 1 mile.

This was our third stay at this spacious, clean, comfortable and well equipped cottage. It is really well located for visiting all that the Wye Valley area has to offer. Symonds Yat and the Forest of Dean facilities including Puzzlewood and Go Ape are close by. There are also a fair number of National Trust properties within easy reach. There are worthwhile visits to Hereford, Ludlow, Ross on Wye, Hay on Wye and Abergavenny as well as many other smaller towns in the area. A couple of local pubs, the Three Horseshoes and the Kilpeck Inn provide good food and a local garage stocks everything you would ever need including what is probably the best and cheapest ice cream you will ever find! Pippin is heartily recommended for a visit to this area.

We had a fantastic week in Pippin. The owner was very welcoming without being at all intrusive. The cottage is spacious, a good layout and family friendly. Plenty of hot water and good showers. Great wifi signal for googling days out. Rural location but only 10 mins drive to Hereford for supermarket etc. Plenty to do in surrounding area.

We just stayed at Pippin for a week. We are a family of 4 with 2 children, another couple and their baby also joined us for the weekend. Cottage is very spacious and clean. Was really handy that all the basics were supplied by the lovely owners, tea, coffee, milk in fridge on arrival along with a lovely chocolate cake. Situated in a good location for exploring Hereford. Big downside for us was that we didn't feel the roads were safe enough to take a walk nearby so we had to use the car a lot. Very busy road during the week! Would not recommend if your a light sleeper and are looking for a week away to catch up on sleep! Other than that no negative points to mention.

Excellent home from home accommodation. All 'mod cons'. A welcoming chocolate cake and tea 'makings' was a nice touch. A shelf or stool in bathroom would have been beneficial. Good garden planting. Slight downside is the adjacent road which is a well used cut through from A465 to A49 used by all types of vehicles from cars to artics as well as farm tractors with their accompanying noise which could be disconcerting for some residents.

The position was good in that it was in a lovely area. However the noise of the heavy vehicles that passed close by day and night were very intrusive. Windows had to be open at night due to heat in the upstairs rooms. We also had some trouble with tiny flies during the week.
