A unique house in a fabulous historic setting at the foot of Edinburgh Castle, this unusual wedge shaped house is built onto the wall around St Cuthbert’s church, moments walk from Princes Street gardens

A unique house in a fabulous historic setting at the foot of Edinburgh Castle, this unusual wedge shaped house is situated in the graveyard of St Cuthbert’s church, moments walk from Princes Street gardens. Formerly a school house and then the watchkeeper’s cottage, it is furnished in a dramatic, appropriately Gothic style, and only 270 yards from the West End. It is hard to imagine any more central a location. Restaurants, galleries, historic buildings and a Saturday farmer’s market are a few minutes’ walk. Shops 250 yards.

Double bedroom with 5ft bed. Bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet. First floor: Living/dining room. Galley-style kitchen.

Really loved King Stables! Best break in Edinburgh to date! Excellent location and accommodation. Will definitely be back as we had a great weekend. Food in Edinburgh was excellent. Loads to do!! To much to see for one weekend! Will always visit Edinburgh as I love this Historical City. Have been 3 times previous but first time in Kings Stables which definitely made our weekend! Quirky little cottage which is excellent. Owners are extremely nice and accommodating with any issue at any time. Great people!

Our only complaint is that when we arrived the property was freezing cold, and also no hot water. The property has underfloor heating, and some marble flooring which meant it took twenty four hours to become comfortably warm.

Excellent location for exploring Edinburgh. It can be a little noisy with passing traffic and pedestrians at night, but it was tolerable when you take in to account the positives that the location, cost and facilities provides.

King Stables was in the perfect location for exploring Edinburgh. I'm a non-driver so it was vital to have something centrally located, and at just a 15 minute walk from Waverley station you can't get much closer. The property is located within the grounds of St Cuthburt's church, which was great for me as I have a thing for cemeteries. The property is within walking distance of most of Edinburgh's "places to visit" and there are small supermarkets within a 5-10 minute walk. I'm already thinking about another visit to this property.

Fantastic location. Close to all local amenities and tourist attractions, yet you still feel as though you are away from the noise and rush of the city. Beautiful surroundings, unique property with everything you really need. Warm and cosy, with great views.

Great spot, just underneath the castle and 2 minutes walk through Princes Street Gardens to Princes Street. They've really embraced the gothic surroundings - gloriously ott decor in the sitting room. Easy parking - but would be easier to find the entrance if you just said opposite the Kings Stables car park! Comfortable and cosy. We know Edinburgh well and thought it was looking a bit tired - the Royal Mile is just a tourist trap and lots of people sleeping on the streets in the centre. Had a lovely lunch at Cafe Marlayne in Thistle Street.

We stayed at this quaint manor in the graveyard for our honeymoon last year and I decided to surprise my wife with a long weekend stay to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. Having arrived after a long drive from Peterborough, we were pleased to be back and it was good to see my previous comments and issues had been acted on. It was also nice to see that the kitchen had been updated with a new hob, oven, toaster, microwave etc. If you stay at this property please ensure you turn the downstairs lights on before going down, unfortunately my wife had a fall on the first night and at the time we thought she may have broken her ankle, although it later proved to be a severe sprain. Not to be deterred, she soldiered on best she could with the aid of a stick. The only issue we had was the fact that the internet was down and going by the visitors book, it had been for some months! No NETFLIX available because of no net and this was to save us purchasing films locally as we had seen all the DVD's previously. Not sure if it had been reported, but being the weekend. There was nothing we could do to get it fixed for our stay, as we were only there for a long weekend. At my own expense I changed the ADSL filter, but this did not fix the issue. Due to there being no TV reception which we already knew about and no internet, we decided to cut the holiday short as my wife was unable to get about because she was to immobile. Accidents happen and we were disappointed to leave early, not to mention the money spent on the venture seemingly down the drain. It may have been our 1st wedding anniversary and a testing time, but these things are sent to try us! However do not be deterred from booking this property, if we can find funds..... we will be back!
