The cottage is very well equipped, and well maintained. The small welcome gifts are really appreciated. The garden is a beautiful place in which to sit on a sunny day. In fact, it is an ideal place to go if you "want to get away from it all." We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, but accept it would not be as good for people without a car, or who want plenty of local amenities. There are two pubs in Butterknowle, but neither sell food. The nearest is in Cockfield one and a half miles away up a steep hill, so a car is needed. This also applies to shopping for food. Car parking is a bit of a pain because it is on-street parking on a fairly busy B road. Having said all that, we would still recommend staying here, because the advantages of the cottage, far outweigh the disadvantages mentioned.

Response on behalf of the owner:- Thank you for your comments. We are glad you enjoyed the cottage. As the cottage is in a rural location, as stated in the description, a car is needed. However, there are buses to the local villages and into Durham. As the nearest convenience shop in the next small village is located on a major rural road parking is on the roadside and it can be busy. The cottage is an ideal place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everything, yet with a car all the local attractions are within easy reach.

We loved Kingfisher cottage. The décor and thought put into the cottage is of a very high standard. The cottage is very well equipped with no expense spared. It is very clean and the beds are really comfortable. The kids loved the fact they had a TV in their bedroom, there is a TV in each bedroom, and they watched their DVD before falling asleep. The neighbours are nice too, one lady said we could park our 2nd car outside her house. What else can I say we had a lovely day walking from Bowlees up to High Force and our 2nd day we spent at Hamsterley forest, kids loved it as much as we did, and because we enjoyed Kingfisher cottage that much we are going back again in June.

We had a lovely week in County Durham. The cottage, although quite small downstairs, suited our needs. It was well equipped and in a peaceful location.
