Description

Access to the countryside from a footpath next to this grade II listed cottage, is just ideal for dog walking, as well as the coastal path which is close by.

This charming grade II listed cottage lies in the old village square of St Columb Minor. Kimberly House combines traditional Cornish character with modern comforts. In the large enclosed garden there is a games room with a table football and a patio with picnic bench and sitting-out area. The village has its own pub, church and shop and sits only 1 mile away from the sandy, family friendly beach of Porth. A footpath leading to the countryside, ideal for dog walking, starts opposite this terraced holiday cottage. At Porth beach you will find a café and a pub both looking out over the sand. With Newquay’s seven beaches and Watergate Bay’s 2 mile stretch of golden sand, surf schools are a plenty. For food lovers, Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen restaurant is a must. Other activities close by include horse riding, sea fishing, golf, zoo, sea life centre and the coastal footpath. A little further afield lies the traditional working fishing harbour of Padstow where Rick Stein’s food empire resides. The Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan are also within easy reach. Shop 1/2 mile, pub 100 yards.

Enjoyed a fabulous week at Kimberley House. Great location, lovely walk to nearby beach. Nice quiet location - even quarterly chiming of the nearby church bell was relaxing!

A very comfortable cottage-particularly the bedrooms and bathrooms. Good location for local beaches, although not walking distance with lots of beach equipment to carry, and not dog friendly in the summer. A bit more information from owners in the cottage would have been helpful such as rubbish and recycling arrangements, local walks etc.and there was a lack of large enough saucepans for the number of people cottage sleeps.

We very much enjoyed our week at Kimberley cottage, it is a lovely house with very nice styling and comfortable beds. There are a couple of low beams on the ground floor to be aware of but this is expected in a listed cottage and it is a very spacious house. Our sons loved the games room and it was a great bonus to find the body boards and other beach goodies available to use. The local pub was an excellent choice for dinner and the village is a short drive from Newquay town and Fistral beach (our favourite). The regular church bells are mentioned in other reviews but they did not disturb us at all. It is a good choice for extended families as it accommodates up to seven people comfortably, we always managed to park in the square in front of the house and we also found the neighbours very friendly and approachable. We would love to visit again.

A really, truly lovely house - old beams etc - which has been tastefully and comfortably decorated. Everything is in good condition, the beds are very comfy, and there's a large garden for kids to run about with the added bonus of a large trampoline, which our daughter loved. The games room at the end of the garden (table football, bar skittles & a Playstation) would have been a real bonus in a wet week, but fortunately we had decent weather throughout. It's an easy 15 minute walk down to the local family-friendly Porth beach (although there's free parking on the beach after 4pm), which is great for digging, damming streams, exploring etc. The adjacent Porth Island (accessible by bridge) is simply stunning to walk out to at sunset and the Mermaid pub at the beach does much better pub grub than you'd expect (recommended). Only a couple of points to note - the church near the property has bells that ring through the night but (as the friendly locals said would happen) after a restless first night we quickly got used to them. Parking in the square outside the house is more restricted than suggested, but there's plenty in the next road down so this wasn't really a problem for us. Apart from this, it's a fantastic house in a lovely quiet village location, highly recommended.
