Description

Come and enjoy the magnificent views right across the Durham Dales whilst relaxing in this welcoming home from home.

Ken’s Cottage, located in Frosterley, is just off the village green away from the main road and commands beautiful views across the valley to the fells and the local landmark, the Elephant Trees. Frosterley is located on the River Wear in Weardale, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offering stunning scenery in the North Pennines in beautiful County Durham.
Warm, comfortable and charming, this traditional cottage offers a comfortable retreat in a beautiful area. Relax with a book in front of an open fire, dine al fresco or enjoy time in the solar dome in the garden in this welcoming home from home.
The property provides the perfect accommodation for active families or for couples looking for a romantic break. Families and couples are both well-catered for.
The area offers well-established walking and cycling routes, and Stanhope open air heated swimming pool is open May to September. Hamsterley Forest is a short drive away. Fishing may also be available locally. The village itself offers two good pubs, one of which has an excellent restaurant. There is also a shop, post office and fish and chip shop. The popular tourist destination of Stanhope is only 3 miles west and Wolsingham, 3 miles east, both offering a good variety of shops, cafés and pubs. The Polar Express runs between Wolsingham and Stanhope in November and December, a must if you have young children. The cottage is an ideal base for travelling around the area with Northumberland, the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District making excellent day trips. The magnificent cathedral and castle at Durham, Bowes Museum, Raby Castle and High Force Waterfall are all within an hour’s drive, as are the historic market towns of Hexham, Bishop Auckland and Barnard Castle. Shop 1/4 mile, pub and restaurant 1/2 mile.

Had a great time, the cottage was snug and warm in the coldest of the weather that nature threw at us. The bathroom was very modern, the bed was so comfortable the widescreen tv and freeview was a bonus and the WiFi was excellent. The hosts where very accommodating

Had a lovely family visit to Kens Cottage and the kids loved it as much as us. Plenty to do and visit in the area, walking distance to park & shop so big hit with kids. Cottage had great facilities and wanted for nothing.

Very pleasant cottage with everything you need. The welcomepack made us at home immediately. The village is peaceful and quiet. A good base for exploring the North Pennines.

We loved our stay at Ken's cottage. We were very warmly welcomed and felt at home there instantly. It is a spacious, clean, comfortable cottage surrounded with friendly, helpful neighbours. The garden is a little haven and Weardale a gorgeous place to walk. My little girl loved playing in the river, trying to catch the rabbits and discovering Frosterley marble. The open air swimming pool at Stanhope was also a child-friendly attraction on one of the warmest days and The Black Bull Inn a precious find. We hope to return one day.
