Description

A lovely barn conversion with countryside views. Situated on a beef farm with picnic tables and a lake in the grounds.

Situated on an organic beef farm in the Ruthern Valley, these two holiday properties (refs 26445 and 26446)have been designed for you to comfortably enjoy the sights and sounds of the Cornish countryside. With stables and barns close by and with stunning views, the properties are a must at any time of the year. Walks from the door and picnic benches by the lake (100 yards) are just a taste of what’s on offer. They are situated close to the Camel Trail, a disused railway track that runs along the Camel Estuary from Padstow to Wadebridge and beyond to Bodmin, where you can cycle or walk. Also within easy reach are the fishing villages of Port Isaac, made famous by the TV series ‘Doc Martin’, Padstow with its array of shops, pubs and restaurants, including Rick Stein’s famous fish restaurant, Watergate Bay, the home of kite surfing where you will find Jamie Oliver’s ‘Fifteen’ restaurant, and Newquay, with its family-friendly surfing beaches, zoo and Blue Reef Aquarium. The famous Eden Project is also within easy driving distance as are the many beautiful gardens on the south coast. The barns and bungalow are close to the leisure resort of Hustyns where there are spa treatments available. Shop, pub and restaurant 4 miles.

Had a wonderful 3 night stay in keepers cottage, loved the well equipped kitchen, the woodburner and the location was just right, not too far away from all amenities (wadebridge is about 10-15mins drive away, padstow 15-20mins). Being on a farm there were the occasional moo's here and there but that's all you heard really. It was quite nice! Lovely views to the front of the property. Only niggle, something which was not great about the cottage was the small wet room, for 2 adults and 1 child it wasn't really adequate as the floor got quite wet and it took a good 15mins to drain, bit of a pain but mainly because I usually like a bath so was out my comfort zone anyway. For 3 nights it was fine, we managed! All in all a lovely cottage and good value.

We had a lovely time once we got the heating and hot water working. The cottage had a few quirks such as doors not really fitting well but overall was a comfortable place to stay. We would have preferred a dishwasher to the washing machine that was supplied. Some of the cups and plates were chipped so it may be worthwhile the owner having a periodic check. The bed was comfortable and all the linen was clean. The owner was friendly and made herself available without being obtrusive. We were friendly with the party in the next cottage and a gate in the balcony would be really cool! As we were there in the depth of winter we had the windows closed at night so we did not hear the animals in the barnWe had a great time. We had everything we needed at the cottage which we used as a base for daytime exploring and night time dinner parties. The neighbouring cottage was better for this as there was more room in their kitchen.

We had a lovely stay at the cottage dispite the english weather, and would certainly stay again if we had the opportunity. We did take on board that this is a farm as we have a toddler with us, but we didn't run into any problems. We wanted peace and quite as we live in a busy area and that is mostly what we got apart from the odd tractor driving by! :-) You could tell you were definately in the cornish country side from the view out on the balcony. The hostess was very friendly and helpful and was able to answer any of my questions. The only real drawback I suppose was actually the roads getting to the place. Very narrow and steep at the same time. Scary meeting traffic coming the otherway if your not use to it. But this is Cornwall and to be expected.

Lovely cottage, just a little far from coast with the winding country lanes. Our lack of knowledge rather than marketing of property.

If you like compact accommodation this may be the cottage for you. If you like a dirty wet room with a bad odor this might be your thing. If you like to sleeping in on your holiday the noise of a working farm is a problem. Otherwise book now.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Keepers cottage is for two adults and two children as is made clear in the description. Your children were both girls and both teenagers effectively equivalent to 4 adults. You rang prior to arrival then asked if you could invite friends for a sleepover to which we agreed with misgivings not wishing to be churlish, and having emphasised to you that the cottage was small. That night seven of you slept in a cottage designed for two adults and two children, and like most rural properties there is septic tank and not mains drainage which is not suitable for disposable nappies sanitary towels or tampons it is little wonder the wet room struggled to cope. It is unreasonable to over occupy the property then complain it is small. With regard to the working farm the details clearly state the same. We can only assume that either you did not read the details or were unsure what a working farm entails. In future we suggest you book family accommodation with further space for your guests. We do however welcome all constructive feedback in order to maintain our property to its highest standards.
