Description

Historic and unique accommodation in former World War 1 army barracks, comfortably restored, yet keeping rustic charm and character.

Situated at Staithes, near Whitby, these former World War 1 army barracks are in an idyllic position close to the countryside and sea. Four of the barracks have been ingeniously and tastefully transformed to provide good quality accommodation retaining much rustic character and charm. The remaining 7 lodges retain their near original condition as a visual reminder of their former function. Each refurbished lodge has the added advantage of parking and an outdoor sitting area.
Situated just off the Cleveland Way, there are many fine moorland and cliff top walks as well as golf links nearby. There is a leisure centre 2 miles down the road and a 2-minute stroll down the cobbled street brings you to the centre of the picturesque fishing village with its small harbour nestling beneath rugged cliffs. Step back in time and walk the quaint narrow passages, as Captain James Cook himself must have done. Here in Staithes there are village shops, pubs, cafes and a restaurant. Why not travel on Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Express (the North Yorkshire Moors Railway) through ’Heartbeat’ country, or visit Whitby and its famous abbey which is 11 miles away.
NB: As the four lodges are in close proximity to one another, they could be booked for groups of up to 24 guests. Additional en-suite rooms available on site, on request with owner.

Shame about the building work at the top of the site. We were not made aware of this and it is one of the main reasons we stay there- access to field and cliff top.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for you feedback. Sorry you weren’t informed about the work on the top end of the site where the camping used to be for many years. Luxury lodges are being built to sell as homes, replacing the camping; this will make the site even quieter. For safety reasons, it is law we make this area out of reach to the public until any ground work is completed, it will be open again as soon as possible. We can also inform you of an alternative way onto the same walk. Sorry this affected your stay and we do appreciate your feedback. Thanks again.

We enjoyed our stay here very much, but wanted to be closer to the centre of the village and have a view. It was well equiped, clean roomy and confortable. Our host was very helpful too. Unfortunately WIFI was not available in the property and Vodaphone did not function here either.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback, I’m pleased you enjoyed your stay. We are looking into getting the Wi-Fi in the cottage. You can access free Wi-Fi just outside the office where we have put a bench. We find EE and 3 mobile networks work well in our area, I’m not sure about others. I appreciate you taking the time to give us your valuable feedback. Kind regards.

Coble cottage was cosy quirky and in a great location having space nearby to park your car is a bonus the outside area for your dog in this particular cottage is small ( the others are bigger) but it's safe and enclosed and there is a large grassed area right outside for you to walk your dog anyway no complaints at all loved it!

Lovely, quirky converted WW1 barrack that was perfect for the two of us and our dog. Well furnished although beds could have been better but overall wish we could have stayed longer than 2 nights.
