Set in peaceful grounds, this typical ‘demeure de charme’ from the 17th century has been restored with lots of love from the owner. All the rooms are tastefully furnished in a romantic country style for comfort and relaxing. Ideal for a large family or group of friends. The large, flat, enclosed garden is ideal for children. The large covered terrace is perfect for summer evenings, barbecues, and dining. The pool area is also very relaxing, with the large pool house where two beds are waiting for the traditional ‘siesta’. The holiday villa is very close to Périgueux with shops, medieval old town, and a market on a Wednesday.

Although aesthetically pretty, the house was impractical for a large group. As commented elsewhere, every available surface was taken up with useless bric-a-brac, the outside kitchen had a dangerous stove; you had to lean over it to light it and one of the burners took any hair off your arm. The indoor kitchen was poor. There was a separate grill / oven, not adequate for the 11 - 13 people it sleeps. The barbecue is not properly ventilated and difficult to keep in. Equipment is tired eg the handle kept falling off the bread knife. The back bedroom stank of sewage when it rained (we lost 2 nights' use of the room). The owner provided bleach to pour down the shower but this was not a satisfactory solution. The attic room is not practical for adults. On the good side, the pool area was nice and table tennis enjoyable. The area is pretty but not much for kids to do. The cleaning fee of Euro 200 was a rip off given the mouse droppings we found in the food cupboard when we decided to do a deep clean ourselves. To be expected in a country house, but not on the first couple of days and no containers to keep food in to get round the problem. The water pressure was poor - showers would scald or freeze when someone else turned on a tap or there would be no water in the upstairs if someone was using it downstairs.

AN interesting property, with a great pool. Lots of clutter round the house, with 20+ decanters on one windowsill! Pool table is ancient and handicaps all players. Great Auberge in village. Some difficulty with water pressure that made it difficult to use a shower when any other facility used. Eating area is on veranda outside, there are twin barbeques but they were both missing components and we had to improvise. The rustic floorboards in bedrooms don't all meet leaving some gaps.
