A well equipped, cosy cottage away from the (expensive) Lake District but within easy reach of the southern lakes.

Use cottage for its proximity to family. This is now our go-to place.

We absolutely love this Cottage. My husband and I stayed for our Wedding Anniversary in Feb this year and thoroughly enjoyed it. We arrived about 3pm and Christine the owner had set a wonderful fire for us in the log burner. We had a bottle of wine cooling in the fridge, tea, coffee, milk. It was equipped with everything you could need and more. The WiFi was really handy too. Lots of books, games and information leaflets on what to do and where to go. We visited the Safari Zoo whilst there and Hand fed Sumatran Tigers. Kendal was great for shopping. The walks and views around the cottage were beautiful. The Farmers Arms across the road from the cottage was perfect for a wonderful meal and the prices were very reasonable too. We only have good things to say about Jackdaw Cottage and will definitely be back.

If you are looking for somewhere in the middle of a town with lots of facilities around, then this cottage is not for you. If you are looking for a lovely little cottage in a peaceful setting, with an excellent pub opposite and somewhere you can look up and see the stars. Then this is for you. We spent four days at this cottage and really enjoyed it. The cottage was larger than we expected. I am just over six foot and had no issues (apart from ducking walking into the kitchen). The cottage was clean and had everything we could of asked for, even our fifteen year old daughter enjoyed it (although that may have something to do with the wifi). Would definitely recommend this property and it would be our first choice if we returned to the lakes.

Lovely week visiting daughter and family. Farmers Arms opposite do good food but you need to book early for Saturday evening. Very friendly pub. No local shop as farm shop is closed. That coast road, on which we must have traveled almost a hundred times over the years, never loses its beauty. Good breakfast in Booths (Ulverston) and quality produce and wine. I only rated 5 for comfort because the double bed is super hard. As a seasoned cottage holidaymaker I always travel with a mattress topper - but I was warned by a previous visitor to Jackdaw of the issue. Also, be aware that the bathroom sink area is very small. Make allowances allowances and don't let it put you off. The cottage is charming
