Close to the sea

This delightful holiday property with sea views, is set in the sleepy seaside village of Ferryside. Traditionally presented, Ivy Cottage has large proportions and is set in its own large enclosed garden. It is uniquely positioned less than a few minutes walk to the seafront. It is an ideal family location and a delight for children as the railway runs quietly through the centre of the village, also providing ideal links to Carmarthen and Pembrokeshire. Ferryside is an almost undiscovered part of the Carmarthenshire coastline and benefits from all the peace and tranquillity. Guests can take advantage of a spa complex, located only 150 yards from the cottage which offers a large indoor swimming pool, gym, sauna, steam room and games room (at cost). Ffos Las Racecourse is 7 miles (15-minute drive). Horse riding nearby. Ideal for golf. Shop 500 yards, pub and restaurant 150 yards.

Ground floor: Living room. Dining room with tiled floor/kitchen. Separate toilet. Steep, Dutch paddle staircase to first floor: 4 bedrooms: 2 double (one 5ft), 1 twin, 1 single. Bathroom with bath, shower cubicle and toilet.

The cottage was clean and there was wine and welsh cakes on arrival. However the main oven on the cooker is not working correctly and both my son and daughter in law burnt themselves on it. the thermostate seems to be broken and the oven just gets hotter and hotter. The local amenities were not very good either. There is no mobile signal either.

Nice house but the view is not as good as I expected, being so close to the Towy estuary. The view is blocked by the houses opposite and the railroad. We liked the Dutch stairs but the beds are too short for Dutchmen. Good kitchen facilities though we dearly missed a soup spoon.

The stairs were a bit steep not good for the elderly my mother had to sleep downstairs as there was no way she could manage the climb - also the oven was thick with grease and had to be cleaned out before use otherwise good location - brilliant weather and a good time had by all even the dog each day we did a doggie poo patrol to keep the grass clear although we did have a few foxes who made a mess.

The location of Ivy Cottage was very good but the cottage needed a good clean - on running a bath for my grandchildren we found shards of glass and contacted Mr James but he has yet to reply - the wood burning stove needed cleaning out before we could use it and we had to poo pick the garden before the grandchildren could play out. The oven thermostat did not work so food either burnt or was raw and as a self catering cottage this was annoying and the supply of glasses, plates etc for 7 people was very limited.

Lovely house and idyllic located. The house is very homely, easy to relax in and very comfortable. Would highly recommend and stay again.

We had a really lovely time in this fantastically cosy, characterful cottage. The location is absolutely great if you've got kids and dogs, the beach is a two mins walk away and my 7 and 5 year olds spent hours just looking in rock pools and running around down there. Its also a great base to explore nearby Llanelli and Carmarthen, both lovely towns with lots going on. We also loved the garden centre in Kidwelly - great cafe and amazing free playground. The house itself was fabulously toasty, well equipped kitchen although the temperemental oven drove us crazy at first! Its a great base and lots of room for big family meals (we were 7) and games etc. Really recommend it, we'd love to go back!
