There was some difficulty with parking the car. The hot water was dangerously hot. Lack of mixer unit in shower rendered it extremely difficult to use. Door lintel in bedroom very low for average height person and should have a cautionary sign on it. Recent redecoration & refit generally good but large amount of decorators dust everywhere. Kitchen sink overflow not connected properly resulting in flooded cupboard below. Great location, lovely people, perfect area and central for use of Caledonian Canal. Would definitely return.

This is not the first time we have stayed at ivy cottage and defiantly will not be the last, perfect location and cottage is full of character, only recommendation would be that the hedging etc round the cottage is maintained better as its starting to obscure the stunning views over the loch

We had a lovely week in Ivy Cottage, OK we were spoiled by the weather, but the cottage was more than we expected. We read the comments about the shower, both on line before we went and in the comments in the cottage book, but we found that with care and patience it worked fin. Location was great for what we wanted and the presence of the boat hire business didn't in any way detract from our stay. The Eagle Barge is a brilliant little business providing evening meals, either bar meals or pre-ordered dinners as well as a very well stocked bar! All in all, we will be back!

Cracking little cottage right beside the Caledonian Canal at Laggan Locks. Very clean and tidy, very warm (we turned the storage heaters off and it was still warm days later). Lovely coal fire with a stock of coal for the evening. Kitchen stocked with everything we needed. Ideal for cycling to Fort Augustus along the side of the canal, a very flat 17km cycle and very close to several munros for hill walkers including 2 just down the road. Cycle route and Great Glen Way pass right by the cottage. Previous reviews have mentioned the shower. It's an old school one where you have to adjust the taps to get the right temp and once you get used to it it's no problem. Some people are just too used to pressing a button to get what they want...... It is in the grounds of a boat hire business but we were never disturbed by any noise from it and the back garden is very private with lovely loch views. The floating pub on the other side of the loch gates is great too.

We did enjoy our week at Ivy Cottage and was very lucky with the weather. Lovely views, enjoyed watching the boats coming in and out of the Canal and good walks. Cottage was basic but comfortable. The only let downs where the shower mix was either too hot or too cold and therefore could not use the shower. Also the Hoover did not work that well, despite checking it over.

We have been a few times to Ivy Cottage, only because of the location. Great for walking the dogs and enclosed garden. The cottage isn't the most comfortable, garden unkempt. Heating on in the day and cold in the evenings. It definitely could do with a make over. Parking can be an issue. The back door handle fell off when we were there, reception person was not very pleasant and didn't offer to fix it for us, we did it ourselves. Could go on with all the misgivings but we love it for the location only. We think it is overpriced for the cottage and they charge for the dogs now.

Shower was not good. Hot and cold couldn't be properly mixed. The heating was also a problem. Better to have normal heaters rather than overnight storage ones. The living room was very dark. The bed was too narrow. Should be at least 1.60 wide.

Needs updating, needs new kitchen taps, cooking utensils very poor, no lid on kitchen bin (not good with dogs), shower very poor, towels very old & shabby, only good thing was free fuel.

Beautiful location and it was lovely to have a coal fire, but the cottage needs to be smartened up, particularly the garden. Equipment was basic. e.g. no washing up basin provided, bin without lid. The shower was unusable as you either scolded yourself or froze, so bath was the only option. We were not greeted at any stage by the owners or carers of the property to see if everything was alright which is quite unusual for cottages4you cottages. it was a good base for touring the Great Glen area but we would not choose this particular cottage again.
