Description

This impressive, baronial-style mansion provides a magnificent setting from which to tour the Moray coast.

This magnificent, baronial-style mansion provides a stunning setting from which to tour the Moray coast and the Grampian Highlands. Standing within its own spacious grounds on the edge of Keith, on the Whisky Trail, it offers guests supreme comfort and the chance to savour the elegant lifestyle of a bygone era. There are fine antique furnishings selected to blend in with the sumptuous surroundings, which include a huge mahogany dining table, and even a grand piano, making this an unforgettable ‘live like a laird’ experience. Built in 1892, a room accommodating a full-size snooker table also features, where guests can enjoy a friendly game. The colourful and extensive gardens include formal herbaceous beds, a walled kitchen garden, vinery, greenhouses, orchard and sweeping lawns, providing space to relax and unwind in gloriously tranquil surroundings.
Isla Bank is only 10 miles from the Moray Firth, with its beautiful sandy beaches and charming fishing villages to explore, and is renowned as one of the best places in Scotland to view dolphins at play. To the south lies the stunning Cairngorm mountain range, stretching for fifty miles and offering outstanding climbing, hill walking and winter skiing. The area also boasts superb fishing on the Spey and Deveron rivers, and an 18-hole golf course and swimming-pool just a mile away. Lying in the heart of distillery country, Dufftown, the acclaimed ‘Malt Whisky Capital of the World’, is found just a short distance away. Here the Glenfiddich Distillery produces one of Scotland’s lighter and sweeter varieties of fiery amber spirit, bottled on the premises, and offering visitor tours. Behind the distillery, the Stewart stronghold of Balvenie Castle survives as a ruin, whilst several other castles abound – one of the smallest and prettiest in the area at Huntly, 10 miles away, which is also the birthplace of children’s author George MacDonald. There are many fascinating places to visit in an area with a long and colourful history. Aberdeen and Inverness airports are both an hour by road or rail, making this a very convenient holiday location. Shop 1 mile.

We were a group of 9 with ages ranging from 4 to 75. A good place to stay and the full-size snooker table was a huge hit every evening after dinner. The house was a taste of faded glory and it needs some TLC but it is endowed with masses of space which we always look for. Some have said that the kitchen is small ......and it is ......but it is well equipped and we managed without any problems at all. If you want space in abundance and a peaceful location that is so convenient for every direction, plus Pauline - the most attentive of housekeepers, then this is the place for a great holiday.

We were a party of 9 with 4 adults and 5 young adults between 11 and 15 years old. We had read many reviews before booking and decided to go for it, when we got there we found it to be as good as the reviews made out and the much mentioned Pauline the housekeeper was as friendly and as informative as described. The house was as big as expected and looked just as the pictures in the website showed. You may read about the kitchen being small, we found it adequate and had no trouble preparing cooked breakfasts and a few meals. More important than preparing the meal is all being able to sit around the massive table to eat it together....and it is massive. The snooker table could do with being recovered but in a way we not bothered about its worn state because it meant that we were not on edge all the time when the kids were playing on it. There are plenty of games provided but the best game everyone played was 'hide and seek' in the dark. We all laughed so much, it was excellent. I fact one of us laughed so much they did a little we in their pants - but I'm not allowed to say who. There is plenty to do in the area, we did Dolphin watching, white water rafting (all ages catered for) Karting, Walks, Chivas Regal visit is 100yards away and as a non Whiskey drinker I really enjoyed. The usual facilities such as cinema (a huge old fashioned cinema with big modern seats) 10 pin bowling and all the fast food places that young adults love are available in Elgin 20 mins away. We were lucky our visit was blessed with good weather, we spent an afternoon on Cullen beach and went for a long walk along the long sandy Lossiemouth beach followed by excellent pizzas at the pizzaria on Lossiemouth front. The thing that Impressed me most about the area was when I was exploring the old Main Street with my wife, we entered one of the little shops and after looking around for a couple of minutes we noticed a hand written message next to the till informing us that the shopkeeper had nipped out and if we saw anything that we wanted we should take it and leave our money in the basket next to the till. Sums up what the people in the area are like.
