Enjoying a peaceful setting in the grounds of Barcaldine House, a 16th century mansion, these holiday cottages are an ideal base from which to explore this magnificient part of the west coast of Scotland. Iona Cottage (ref 29133), Tiree Cottage (ref 29578)and Staffa (ref 30835) adjoin the owner’s home, whilst Easdale Cottage (ref 29134) stands detached. Close to the village of Benderloch and the sandy beach at Tralee Bay, there are plenty of attractions to visit, including the Scottish Sea Life Sanctuary, Castle Stalker, Bonawe Iron Works and Cruachan Hollow Mountain. On the doorstep to Barcaldine House is Sutherland’s Grove, offering a superb range of forest trails for walking, and mountain biking at Sustrans cycle track, allowing miles of easy cycling for all the family, whilst enjoying magnificient views and an abundance of wildlife. The nearby harbour town of Oban offers a full range of shops, excellent restaurants, a leisure centre and cinema. From the bustling harbour, you can catch a boat to the Hebridean islands of Mull, Staffa and Iona, or from Port Appin, you can hire a bike and take the little ferry to Lismore. Glencoe and Fort William are both a short drive away, and offer excellent skiing, walking and climbing. Shop 4½ miles, pub and restaurant 3 miles.

    The location of this property was lovely for exploring both Oban and the Highlands. As previous reviewers have said the outside of the property belies the interior. Outside area could be tidied up to give a good first impression as the cottage itself is comfortable and well equipped. Initially it was chilly at night but the owner provided plenty of firewood for the fire, and we suspect that the cottage may have been empty prior to our visit. The owner was very friendly and accommodating and responded to queries quickly.

    Enjoyable week working on our boat in Barcaldine. Hosts very helpful and friendly. Pity there was no mobile phone reception

    Lovely cottage in a beautiful location, ideal for walking the dogs! Wood burning stove is a great feature and kept us nice and warm in February. The grounds are lovely, would love to visit again in the summer. Chris was very welcoming and exceptionally dog friendly. We had a brilliant stay and would recommend!

    The owners were very friendly and helpful , The location was great, The cottage had everything you needed however the cottage smelt and felt damp.

    We really enjoyed our stay here and got one on the best weeks weatherwise. Our dogs loved it and wern't very happy on their return home. Lots of walks nearby. Visited Lismore and Kererra by boat, Walked Glen Coe and ate well in nearby restaurants. Our hosts were excellent and were made very welcome.

    I loved the location, short drive to a wonderful beach at Benderloch, lovely walks from the cottage, nice log fire for cool evenings, lovely owners, dog friendly, fantastic wifi, poor phone reception )made calls over wifi though). loch etive nearby, not too far from Oban - great place to tour from - Glencoe etc.
