This was our first stay at the cottage, the location is perfect for those who like a quiet rural hideaway. The only noise we could hear was the little stream in front of us. The owners were very helpful especially when we needed a car mechanic as soon as we got there. The cottage is very old with a lovely woodburner and spiral staircase to add to the character. The rooms downstairs are small, the bathroom is on the ground floor, which can be tricky if you need it during the night. The bedrooms in comparison are much larger, with a super size double bed. Access to the property is fine, just bear in mind Devon is full of narrow lanes and getting to this cottage is no different. It id though only about 5 minutes from the A38. We would stay there again.

Our stay couldn't have been more enjoyable. We loved the cottage, loved the location and the owners were wonderful. We were very sorry when the week was over hope to return again.

Beautiful period cottage in the lovely Devon countryside. Yes there are a few cobwebs and spiders, and there's a slightly musty smell. But what do you expect? The cottage is over 400 years old and is in the middle of the countryside! We had a fantastic relaxing week away from it all, the cottage has everything you could need for a self catering holiday. Hosts Mary and Nigel were lovely and helpful and they had some gorgeous cats that liked to pay us a visit. The bottle of wine, pint of milk and biscuits left by the owners, were a kind and thoughtful touch. We didn't use the pool so can't comment on this. We would definitely return, if we were to visit this part of the country again. Thank you Mary & Nigel for a wonderful stay.

not happy it does not say in the details of the cottage that the heating controls are in the owners house next door so had to go and ask for them to put the heating on and could,nt put it on when we wanted it. it sleeps four but only small settee and one not very comfy armchair for people to sit on , beds and bathroom were lovely and clean but cobwebs on ceiling and dusty, the swimming pool was disgusting lots of dead insects at the bottom which was a big dissapointment looked like it needed a good clean , the wood on the bridge was missing which was stated in another review back in 2012 so still waiting to be fixed not happy would not go back .

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We were surprised by this review. Re. heating, this was mid-summer and the heating system was on standby. It was turned on after a request. Every radiator has a thermostatic valve. Sorry about cobwebs. We are in the middle of the countryside. Every spider and cobweb is hoovered up each Saturday. I don't know what more to do to stop spiders coming in. The swimming pool was disgusting. Some kind soul opened the valve on the sand filter when the pump was not running which allowed the entire system to drain down. When the pump started again, the air/water mix sandblasted the inside of the filter and dumped a whole load of sand in the pool. The pool is no longer in use. The wood on the bridge was permanently removed because it was again beginning to rot. There is a 13th century stone bridge a few metres to the left and this provides access.
