Welcome Cottages

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

A seaside retreat for a small family or a romantic escape for two. The golden sands make the perfect setting for an evening stroll.

Less than a mile from the long stretch of golden sand, backed by sand dunes, this comfortable, mid-terraced, ground floor holiday apartment, built in the late 1800s, is ideally located for walking around this traditional seaside town. The town offers a lively shopping area and popular open-air markets. During the summer, the seafront is a setting for free events with live music in the amphitheatre, parades, open-air concerts and brass bands. Also a popular venue for the Great North Run, the finish line is just down the road. Add to this, an array of cafés, pubs and restaurants and guests will wish they had more time here. Visit Bede’s World, Souter Lighthouse, the Roman fort and Marsden Rock with its built-in pub and grotto. Ideally located for discovering the whole of Northumberland with its miles of beaches and castles, inland to the National Park, or over to Hadrian’s Wall making for glorious days out. Beach 3/4 miles. Shop 50 yards, pub 250 yards and restaurant 200 yards.

1 small step to entrance. All on ground floor: Living room/dining area with laminate floor. Kitchen with breakfast bar and laminate floor. 1 double (5ft) bedroom with laminate floor. Bathroom with corner Jacuzzi bath, step to shower cubicle and toilet.

Gas central heating, gas, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Travel cot. High chair. 48’’ Freesat TV. Gas hob. Electric oven. Microwave. Washing machine. Dishwasher. Enclosed yard. On road parking. Cycle store. No smoking.

Needs a good clean. Lots of dog hairs.

Response on behalf of the Owner; I am sorry you felt this way about our flat. You came with three dogs yourselves. There are, on average, two dogs every week in the flat and I cannot remove every dog hair in the place considering we only have five hours to clean between guests and as some guests do not leave on time, it is often less than five hours.

Excellent cottage, everything required on site. Water didn’t stay hot for long though, but really no complaints and long very owner. Very helpful.

Great little cottage. Ideal for dogs. A 5 minute walk to the beach. The pud down the road was dog friendly and great food. The people were so friendly. We will return

we enjoyed our stay in the North East and used South Shields as a base to explore the coast and also inland between Alnwick, Durham and Hexham. The flat is very comfortable and has virtually everything you need. Alison's welcome pack was also much appreciated.

We just spent a Monday to Friday here for a much needed break. On the whole it was not bad at all, host was very lovely and we had a lovely welcome basket of fruit and chocolates and wine and some little essential things to get us going, i.e.; coffee teabags sugar, lovely fresh crusty bread. The area is lovely only being a short 1 minute or so drive to the beautiful beach and restaurants. South Shields really is beautiful. My only real disappointment was to find that it was not a cottage at all but a ground floor flat based in a terraced row of houses and other flats with an owner upstairs in his flat. You could hear the walking around and on rare occasion chatting. It wasn't too bothersome but was in the background . The cleanliness was good but attention to detail needs looking at, as when moving side table by the bed to plug in phone found lots of fluff and dust and someone's broken torch. Another important thing is that while the bedroom is lovely there is no curtains on the windows just vertical blinds and they do not block out the sun at anytime till sun is gone, which is quite late in summer. I found sleeping the hardest part because of this. My overall rating was for the disappointing flat and not having a cottage. From looking at the pictures on the website it looked like a couple of cottages together. My mistake will do better next time. If having a flat doesn't bother you then you simply can't go wrong with this property.... ps. Bedroom has gothic theme......
