Hawthorn is a lovely spacious cottage, well equipped and with very comfortable beds and sofas! Being able to take out 2 dogs along for new year celebrations was wonderful too! The house also had done tasteful Christmas decorations and a lovely tree! The location is quite remote and the nearest big supermarket is Barnstaple- 20 min drive- but is manageable as long as you plan food purchases in advance. I also made the mistake of thinking there was WiFi available (completely my error, as the listing is very clear it doesn’t) but it did make a wet and windy Januaray stay a little inconvenient without internet connection! However, for our group of 6 adults and 2 dogs, over New Year it was wonderful. Plenty of great cooling equipment for large group meals, comfy seating, loads of space, comfy beds, lovely bathrooms and secure garden area for the dogs. My only other issue was no separate dedicated freezer, just a small icebox in the fridge, which was a bit small for a large group. The hosts had left lovely welcome edible gifts, too, all in all, a lovely stay and great value!

We had a fantastic week at hawthorn cottage. There were plenty of places to visit and take the dogs. The cottage itself was very comfortable and ideal for our 1 year old to run around in thanks to the provided stair gates. The paddock was also ideal for taking g the dogs out early morning and in the evenings. The phone reception was awful and there was no WiFi but I see that as a blessing and found being uncontactable very refreshing.

Nice house & beautiful area but very isolated and limited shopping (supermarkets etc). Very poor communications - no signal for some mobile phones, no wi-fi and no landline in case of emergencies. We were left with a contact number for the owners but were unable to contact them and, contrary to information given to us by the booking agents, they were not in residence on site. We sent a deposit cheque for £100 and have not had it returned.
