We absolutely loved our stay at Holme Farm House. The house is charming and in a wonderful location. The owners were friendly, welcoming and very helpful. The rooms were well maintained with plenty of comfortable clean bedding and towels. We didn't use our car all week, content with the surrounding park and farm. It's a holiday we will remember for a long time and nobody wanted to leave. The kitchen was well equipped other than the lack of baking trays, although with a bit of creativity we managed to cook for 8 people every night including a full roast dinner so it wasn't a big issue. Will definitely return one day, we truly had a magical time.

Had a lovely stay at Home Farm. The house was big enough for 10 people and two dogs. Fantastic location, right next to Markeaton Park where there are some fantastic activities, so many we did not get time to do everything. The owners of the property where very nice, we called for some more wood and it came later that day. Only comment would be that it could do with some more baking trays and oven proof dishes to cook in, but don't let that stop you going as it is a lovely old house. The house was clean, it is a very old house but full of character. The cafe at the farm next door was lovely, especially the full English breakfast on our last morning. The Garden Centre next door is worth a visit, especially leading up to Christmas with their Christmas display. We will definitely come back.

The property was great in terms of location and character. However it felt tired and in need of attention. The kitchen was poorly equipped and did;t have enough crockery for everyone and what there was was a strange mixture of old and tatty items.

The reviews prior to going were correct. We took lots of our own things to compensate. Definite requirement for TLC and general maintenance. Cleaning routine between new bookings each week I suspect is done by the individuals as we did. There was a lot of dust and cobwebs. We put a battery in the kitchen clock, a lightbulb in a lamp and cleaned out the bathroom light which was full of dead flies. Mattresses and pillows were awful. Kitchen utensils and crockery insufficient. We cleaned everything in the dishwasher prior to use and mopped the kitchen floor. The garden had one bench table with three dirty plastic chairs for 9 of us. A dog from somewhere used it as a toilet everyday. One key wasn't sufficient for 4 couples. On the positive Richard always answered his phone when I rang for heating and he said there was no hurry to leave on our exit day as no one else was booked. We were out and about as the location was good but that shouldn't be the most positive aspect. May I suggest it needs NEW carpeting, mattresses, pillows, crockery, cutlery, big pans (we were a large party) and it would then have received a probable high five from us!

The location of the cottage was excellent and the building was beautiful. However this was marred by the state of the cottage when we arrived. On arrival at approximately 4.00pm (an hour after we were told it would be available) the kitchen floor was being 'cleaned' and the vacuum was out, but had clearly not been used. There were cobwebs all over the house that had clearly not been touched for several months, given the state of them. The floors had not been vacuumed and were filthy - there were remnants of Christmas tree in both the living and dining rooms, our stay was mid February! Towels did not appear until gone 8.30pm and tea towels the following morning. There was a note in the kitchen notifying us that we had to ring the owner whenever we wanted the central heating adjusted and we had absolutely no control over the heating or the individual radiators. Two light bulbs were not working and one was missing - unfortunately one of the light bulbs that was not working was on the staircase, not great when we had small children with us. We contacted the owner the following morning and asked to see him regarding our concerns, particularly the issue of the smoke detectors not working - he did not turn up until the afternoon and made excuses for why things were not done. My husband and I had wasted half a day waiting in for him, missing out on the jaunt that the rest of the group enjoyed. Eventually things were rectified and we were offered a free Sunday lunch in his cafe next door. The lunch was fabulous.
