Description

Fantastic detached country house with stunning interiors, luxury finishing touches and large gardens. Good access to both coast and country.

Situated in a peaceful, rural location on the fringe of the Lake District National Park, these delightful holiday properties (refs 27273 and UKC64) have lots of character, comfort, charm and original features. Holly Lodge (27273) is a detached, spacious 18th-century country house. It is truly impressive and has been assessed as 4 Star Gold by VisitEngland. It has been furnished to a very good standard with a profusion of original features, which have been retained and restored. Traditional and contemporary art adds an interesting slant . The bespoke, quirky kitchen is extremely well equippd for all your needs. The Coach House (UKC64) has been carefully renovated in to a lovely cottage and is also assessed as 4 Star Gold. This semi-detached barn conversion is situated adjacent to Holly Lodge, off the large shared parking area. While Holly Lodge was built in 1802, The Coach House was added later in 1861 by Isaac Ernest Hodgson, leaving his initials IEH indelibly marked in the brickwork, now a feature of the wall both inside and out. Coach House has an open plan living room/kitchen on the first floor to take advantage of the views across the Solway Firth, famous for its fantastic sunsets. Relax in front of the woodburner and enjoy the fabulous vistas. As both properties are private and self-contained, they can be booked separately or, alternatively, booked together to accomodate a larger group of up to 14. The garden area for Coach House is separate from that of the main house but they can be enjoyed together. The arrangements can be flexible to suit the needs of guests. The properties are set in substantial wooded gardens, with formal lawns, orchard and patio areas, the whole of which is enclosed and surrounded by countryside.
Cockermouth, 8 miles, has coffee shops, restaurants, gastro pubs, shops, cycle hire and art galleries. There are theatres in Keswick, Cockermouth and Whitehaven, all within easy reach and hosting musical and theatrical events all year. The small rural village of Aspatria, 2 miles, also has a small selection of shops. There is a public swimming pool in Cockermouth or you can have your own personal indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi and steam room (rented by the hour, it is recommended to book early), just 500 yards away from the properties. Fly fishing is available with a trout pond in Gilcrux, 2 miles, and the rivers Ellen in Aspatria, and Derwent in Cockermouth. The beach, lakes and fells are just a 15-minute drive away. Horse riding is also available locally. Shop 2 miles, pubs and restaurants ½ mile.

We stayed at Holly Lodge to celebrate a family birthday, we were a party of 10 aged from 12 to70. The house had plenty of room to accommodate us all, with the smaller lounge enabling the younger ones to play video games, but the larger lounge big enough for us all to play family games together. The kitchen/ dinning room were very large and had everything that we needed. The open fire and wood burner stove, with the included supply of fuel were thoroughly enjoyed. The large bedrooms were very well appointed with lovely comfy beds and good quality linen. The welcome pack which included wine and beautiful homemade shortbread was much appreciated . There are large gardens which in good weather can be enjoyed by young and old alike. We would certainly reccommend this property to anyone looking for a large property for a friends/ family gathering.

Fantastic place to stay, excellent house superb location. The rooms are really good to entertain and have parties etc. Our party was made up of 10 adults and our dog who loved the gorgeous fires and cozy feel to the property. We would defiantly go back!

We had a 3 night break, altogether there were 10 of us,the house is beautiful every home comfort,5 big bedrooms,2 ensuite and another family bathroom the kitchen is very well equipped and a big table to get everyone round, there is also 1 enormous lounge and another smaller one,one with a log burner and the other an open fire, all coal and wood included. As I had booked the house I was hoping it would live up to expectations,it did and my friends all congratulated me on finding it,we would definitely stay again when next in the area.

Fabulous house, certainly the best one our group have stayed in over the last few years. As the box markings indicate, the house got full marks on all counts.
