15 minutes drive from the cycling centre in the Forest of Dean! Great. There don't appear to be any shops in Clearwell so one is dependent on a vehicle. Plenty of shops within 10 minutes drive. Great house, though, with off street parking for one car. The room layout is comfortable and the kitchen roomy and well equipped. The wi-fi is reliable in the sitting room and upstairs. We appreciated the welcome pack and that there's a washing machine. The house isn't ultra modern nor the presentation slick but everything works and it feels homely. We'll definitely have it as our first choice next time we visit the area.

A lovely spacious cottage in quiet village location within easy driving distance of several places of interest. Location would be perfect if Clearwell had a village store - nearest shop / supermarket in Coleford, couple of miles away.

Noisy road. Local lad on noisy motorcycle roars up and down street 2-3 times a day at excessive speed. White van man next door thinks he owns the road. We came home one day to find that, as he couldn't park opposite his house, he'd actually parked on our drive! Most abusive when I asked him to move it. He clearly has issues with foreign visitors. Thought I was Dutch, as I drive a Dutch registered vehicle. He got a nasty shock when he found out I was from East London and gave him what-for. House is nice but in need of a general overhaul. Pathway outside rear main access door is broken-up and dangerous. Kitchen cooking utensils need replacing. We had to buy a frying pan as the ones at Highlands were in such bad condition. Refrigerator light switch is broken so the light stays on. Had to unscrew the bulb to stop overheating. Furniture needs a good clean, smells of dogs! We bought air-fresheners and placed them everywhere to make it bearable. Bedrooms are a decent size, en-suite shower room is adequate but small. Main bathroom is tiny and door is hard to open as it catches on the floor. One bedside light in en-suite bedroom does not work. Changed the bulb but still not working. Window locks missing on a couple of windows. I may have sensitive hearing, but at night particularly, there was a continuous deep humming noise that appeared to be coming from next door, but couldn't be sure of the location. Either way, I was unable to sleep properly because of it. One good point, Hannah, the cleaning lady is a lovely person and very helpful. Poor girl had a terrible time cleaning up after previous tenants left the place in a total mess. I also had to sort their rubbish into proper re-cycling containers otherwise refuse men would not have collected it and we'd have got the blame! Hate to imagine what their house looks like, total pigsty probably.Local amenities within walking distance are non-existent, other than the pubs. TV signal is intermittent, especially on BBC channels, very annoying! WiFi is very slow and erratic.

Response on behalf of the owner:- We would like to confirm you're comments were noted. We have been to our cottage and can now confirm we have carried out Remedial works. Unfortunately as Clearwell village is located in a dip, in the forest area, we are unable to control the quality of wi fi, tv. or mobile signal Ged & Linda

Cottage was lovely, beds very comfy, nice layout. Owners very helpful. Wifi was pretty hit n miss; which wasn't great as the weather was very rainy so we needed it to look up days out (mobile signal in the local area was non existent)

A lovely cottage with every thing you need for a relaxing stay. A very quiet location which was much needed on the wind up to a wedding at the very close Clearwell Castle. We would definitely stay again as the cottage is within driving distance of local towns, Coleford, Monmouth, Ross on Wye. The cottage has everything you could want for both hot days or cold days, conservatory, lovely garden with bbq, log burner. It has two bathrooms, one of them an ensuite shower room as well as a downstairs toilet. The wahing machine and dishwasher was very welcomed for a week long stay. The communications with the owners were clear and precise. The welcome pack provided was extremely pleasing and very welcomed, thankyou. I have already recommended the cottage to others.

The cottage is ideally situated in the centre of the village with lots of lovely walks around. But I think the property is unsuitable for four adults. The mattresses on the single beds need up dating and the lounge furniture should be much more comfortable. However my first disappointment was that I had to clean the oven shelves and baking tins before I could use them ,one was rusty! Not a very good start to a holiday.

Highlands is a lovely cottage and a great base to explore the Forest Of Dean and the Wye Valley. The property is spacious, comfortable, quiet and well-equipped. The garden is secure for dogs. Clearwell is a small village with 2 pubs. The Butcher's Arms serves food but for people with dogs they can only use the bar area which is small. The Lamb serves excellent beer straight from the barrel and is open Friday to Sunday. Coleford is only 10 minutes by car where you can buy most of what you need for a holiday.

Well equipped, clean and cosy with log burner, logs inc a bonus. Hard floor in conservatory ideal for boots and dog paws after a walk in the forest. Great location would highly recommend.
