English Country Cottages

From a touch of luxury to characterful heritage, experience one of our truly inspiring holiday properties.

Description

Spot herons, kingfishers and moorhens from the lake in front of the cottages and enjoy coarse fishing by arrangement.

These two delightful holiday cottages enjoy an idyllic setting, surrounded by trees and an abundance of wildlife, in six acres of shared grounds. Converted from former stable buildings, both cottages overlook the lake where herons, kingfishers and moorhens can be spotted, and benefit from views over the surrounding Kent farmland, each with its own patio from which the country air and unspoilt scenery can be enjoyed. This is a genuine rural haven, far from major roads and an excellent area for walkers, it is accessed along a farm road and has many good foot paths to explore. Within easy reach are the famous Sissinghurst Castle Garden and Smallhythe Place, featuring the Dame Ellen Terry Museum and a timbered, 16th-century yeoman’s home. The magnificent cathedral city of Canterbury and the beach at Camber Sands are both 20 miles away. Golf, tennis, riding and coarse fishing are available locally. Shop 1½ miles, nearest pub just over a mile away.

Attractive, spacious living/dining room with open fire, rugs on wooden floor, door to terrace, and large window overlooking lake. Small, well-equipped kitchen. The setting is ideal, a quiet paradise of lake and well groomed lawns. We enjoyed the setting so much. The ground floor of the cottage was ample for our needs, but sadly the first floor was a bit cramped with the intrusion of low beams. In fairness this was mentioned in the original description but was more of a problem than we envisaged as it was difficult to stand upright in the bathroom and we are quite restricted in height ourselves!

We had high hopes for this holiday. Such a lovely setting but sadly the we were disappointed. It was clean and tidy but the upstairs layout did spoil it. We felt that the owner's investment would have been wiser spent on one single storey cottage rather than the semidetached cottages. I imagine they would have had a lot of returning customers including us perhaps if there was proper headroom upstairs. I also noticed that there has been previous feedback about the lack of welcome no tea or milk etc and this issue has not been addressed yet. We also had to search for the 'welcome' folder which we finally found in a drawer but only knew to look for as we've stayed at a cottage before.

We loved our stay at Fuchsia Cottage. Ideal setting with patio doors opening onto a large pond/small lake. In an excellent location for visits to popular tourist attractions e.g Leeds Castle. Well equiped with every kitchen appliance you could require. Very scenic locality, and we would happily return. The only disadvantage was felt by my husband who taller than the rest of our party struggled a little with the height of the upstairs ceilings (sloping dormer roof)

Very nice location and a spotless clean house. It is ideally situated to visit a lot of Kent's attractions. The large windows offer a very nice view to the idyllic lake in front of the house. We would have appreciated a second garden chair (and a pint of milk on arrival) - but nonetheless we enjoyed our stay.
