Description

Quirky accommodation with splendid four poster bed and private hot tub. A cosy retreat for two with countryside views and good on-site facilities.

‘‘...imbued with noble history...set in a dramatic and varied landscape...’’

Take a beautiful Peak District National Park setting, just 3½ miles from Bakewell, add a historic hall (first recorded in the Domesday Book), and an ancient cluster of listed buildings converted to form superb holiday cottage accommodation....and the result is the captivating blend that is Harthill Hall. Nestling in 14 acres of grounds on an upland called Priest’s Hill with excellent walking available from the doorstep, the properties have the use of an extensive range of leisure facilities including an indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, solarium and treatment rooms. Noble names have woven the threads of the hall’s long history including Henry de Ferrers, the Cokaynes and the Harthills. Henry VIII is also believed to have stayed at the hall.

It was here in 1259 that Sir Richard de Hartle was issued a Papal Bull by Pope Alexander II, allowing him to appoint his own chaplain. The chapel ceased its functions as a place of worship in 1546 and now takes the form of The Chapel and Hartle Cottage. The eight cottages are furnished with antiques and surround a medieval cobbled courtyard. They all retain a wealth of original features including thick stone walls, large oak beams, mullion windows and flagstone floors. Derbyshire’s bustling market towns, villages, hills, dales and rivers offer majestic scenery, and a rich variety of customs. Boasting a varied and beautiful landscape, they offer a blend of heritage, history and family attractions. The beautiful market town of Bakewell (3½ miles) is situated on the River Wye, crossed by a 13th-century five-arched bridge which has coffee shops and restaurants. Within easy reach are Matlock, Hall Leys Park, Chesterfield, Alfreton and Buxton. National Trust properties and gardens nearby include Riley Graves, Longshaw, Mam Tor, South Peak, Dovedale, Hardwick Hall and Kedleston Hall. Close by are both Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall. Games room with free wireless internet connection (1gb per day per device). Golf and horse riding are available within 5 miles. Shop 3½ miles, pub 1 mile.

Living/dining room with slate floor, beams and galley-style kitchen with slate floor. Double bedroom with four-poster bed. Bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet.

Lovely little cottage we had a fab time celebrating our anniversary and really appreciated the little extras. Hot tub and pool were awesome and we found some amazing places to eat in Bakewell nearby 😊

A lot of furniture damaged bed very small at 6-2 I couldn’t sleep in the bed

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; The furniture is real antiques as depicted in the photos, and I can confirm they are not damaged, the mattress is a standard double 4’6” x 6’3” and there is no foot board. The guests did not contact us whilst they were onsite to allow us the opportunity to try and resolve any issues.

Beautiful old cottage, excellent original features. Amazing facilities and everything you need for a wonderful stay. Very tranquil, good location in relation to Bakewell. Will have a special place in our hearts as I asked my partner to marry me in this cottage and she said yes. Amazing place, special weekend, will definitely be back.

We had a great time at Henry's Haunt. The setting is beautiful which made the outdoor hot tub even better. Inside, the accommodation was cosy and had everything we needed. The prosecco and cake for my birthday was a lovely surprise and much appreciated! Would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful place to stay, it was really nice just being able to switch off and spend sometime with my husband. Only thing was that cottage was so cold, we had the heating on but still so cold, The little heater in the cupboard didn’t work, so most of the time we were cold. But other than that we loved that we the only ones there for few days, it was lovely. The kitchen supplied everything that you would need, nice quantity kitchen essentials and extras! So nice! Customer service leaading up to the visit was really good as well!

What a lovely place this is! On arrival, we were greeted with a bottle of prosecco on ice and some Bakewell tarts! How lovely and much appreciated. Our dog, Jack, also had a lovely little bed, bowl, bags, treats and a chew bone, he says thank you! The cottages, converted stables and barns, are set in beautiful surroundings of Harthill Hall, within a lovely little cobbled complex. The cottage itself was a lot smaller than we were expecting, but had everything, and more, that we needed. Lovely comfy sofa, good to and wifi, a tiny but adequate kitchen, and a gorgeous four poster bed, we slept really well. We couldn't work the heating out until our last night so we were a bit cold. It didn't help having large stone tiles with no underfloor heating, really cold on bare feet. Hint...take some slippers! The bath water wasn't hot enough for a bath and the shower was very weak but that could have something to do with the heating boiler. The hot tub was such a treat after a long day's walk and always stayed beautiful and hot. When we weren't eating sleeping or walking we were in the hot tub!
