Description

Great for groups of friends or family, and close to stunning sandy beaches, Dunrobin Castle nearby.

Set within two miles of the stunningly beautiful white sandy beaches of Embo and Dornoch, a Royal Burgh since 1628, this spacious and very well appointed holiday property is ideal for larger parties. Enjoying exceptionally large living areas featuring wooden flooring and very comfortable furnishings, Heatherwood House stands only a short distance from shops, bars and restaurants in the thriving small town of Dornoch, where a pleasant circular walk passes the Old Town Jail and the 13th-century cathedral (famously chosen by Madonna for her son’s Christening), before going on past the Royal Durnoch championship golf course and the beach up to the pier at the seaside village of Embo. Nearby, the Loch Fleet nature reserve (a designated SSSI) attracts a wide variety of wading birds, and guided tours of this wonderfully tranquil tidal basin can be arranged. The Sutherland hills are a short drive away and there are forest walks nearby. Just 10 miles away lies Dunrobin Castle, spiritual home of the clan Sutherland since the 13th century. Today’s visitors can enjoy falconry displays and wander through spectacular gardens, designed by Sir Charles Barry and inspired by the Palace of Versailles. For whisky enthusiasts, Glenmorangie distillery tours at Tain are a must. Shops, bars and restaurants 1.5 miles.

All on ground floor: Living/sun room. Dining area with wooden floor and patio doors/kitchen. Utility room. 4 bedrooms: 3 double, one (5ft) with en-suite shower room, bidet and toilet, one (5ft) with en-suite shower room and toilet, 1 twin. The house is situated at the end of a chalet park in shared grounds with the park. There was a grassy area around the house however, it's not enclosed and is next to a road, half of the grass was bog and the area just behind the house was used as a car park. Not huge issues but we felt that the images and description didn't reflect the space surrounding the house. House was large with lots of sofas and room, great to have a pool table. Surrounding area is fantastic, could walk 10 minutes down to the beach. Wi-fi would have been appreciated and cooker needs replacing due to wear and only partially working.

The setting was not quite what we expected given the photo. We drove up to what looked like a cabin rental park. That in itself was alright. The house was big enough to accommodate the 7 guests, 5 adults and 2 children. There was an over abundance of couches for every one to sit and a small snooker table that everyone enjoyed. There was also a good selection of movies. The addition of a washer and dryer was extremely helpful. However, the downfalls include no internet. The posting didn't say it had or or didn't have Wi-fi and I falsely assumed it did since most holiday home rentals do include it. We drove into Dornach and had coffee at a local shop to check our emails and conduct business and searches. The stove was a mystery. The diagrams on the face of the stove had completely worn off and it was a guessing game on what burner to use. We could only manage to get one burner to work. When we turned the oven on, which did have instructions written on the inside of a cabinet door, the smell was bad. The kitchen was poorly equipped but we made do. There were also not enough paper products of any kind so you have to go and buy extras.

No hot water for the first couple of days of our 4 day stay, then when we had hot water, there wasn't enough for a party of 9 to shower before the water went cold again. Oven range could do with being updated, couldn't see which dial was for which hob and some not working properly - only issues for me in an otherwise lovely place. lots of space inside and out for a big family or group, well presented, lovely and green in the surrounding area. Could do with installing wifi, not an issue for me personally but some of our party complained about it, we were visiting family and being in an area with poor phone signal, wifi would have really helped us when trying to contact relatives. Overall a great place and we would go again if some of the issues were resolved.

Heatherwood House, Where do I start, when we arrived we were speechless with the size of the interior photos don't do it justice. Also very cosy through out with the underfloor heating. We were three couples with a four year old and a five month baby,so having four double rooms one of which has a connecting door was perfect, and plenty room in all bedrooms the on suite bathroom/shower rooms were a bit of luxury. Having a washing machine and a tumble dryer makes life so much easier. The size of all the rooms were great and the added bonus of the pool table, there were a few games played. So thank you for a wonderful holiday in your beautiful house. I would recommend you try here ,we had a great time so relaxing.
