We have been staying around Tintagel area for many years camping and at a family property which has stunning views of Gull Rock, but as it was already being used at half term we had to find another property. Decided on this one because of its easy access to coastal path and the convenience of being able to pop along to the shops and Pengenna pasty's without having the bother of parking! Loved the view of Rough Tor from the back bedroom window and thought the whole house was very well presented. The boot room is so handy and the kitchen is clean and spacious. My niece commented that any bathroom that needs 3 Bathmats must be big, and indeed it is. Just needs Wi-Fi so we could use our Amazon fire stick, but we were very pleased to find a range of DVDs, books and jigsaws. Had a lovely autumn stay at Hazeldene.

Lovely House on the edge of Tintagel which is very spacious clean and tidy. The bathroom is great and has both shower cubical and bath. ample parking for two cars with a garden including a decked area. Only downside is no Wi-Fi at the house although there are plenty of cafes, pubs and the visitor centre with free Wi-Fi. Tintagel has plenty to do on both wet and sunny days. Boscastle, Port Isaac and Padstow are all within easy reach.

This is a lovely house in a great location, near the village which has lots of places to eat, several cafes and pubs, Cornish pasty shops and grocery shops. Its also a 5 minute walk to the coastal paths which give stunning views of Tintagel castle and the coast line. The house is spacious and clean, I read previous reviews which I felt were unfair, the problems have been addressed, the TV is fine and we had all the normal Freeview channels, including itv, to watch. The settees in the living area are older but still comfortable but the caretaker informed us they are being replaced this month. The garden was tidy and there's a decking area with bench and table to eat out if you get good weather. There is plenty of parking behind the house for two cars. We would definitely recommend this house for a lovely relaxing holiday and visiting the north coast of cornwall and we hope to go back there soon.

Hazledene Cottage is in a lovely location near to the village, but still quiet and relaxing. Unfortunately the cottage is in a state of neglect, owing to a lack of attention to repairs and replacement of worn out furnishings. Additionally, the property has no wifi service, which is unusual for a property in this price bracket. Five repairs / upgrades that would make this property serviceable: 1) Replacement of the mattress in the double bed in the master bedroom, which is sagging and well past its best days. Your guests spend a third of their time in the bed, and will appreciate a good mattress. 2) Repair of the broken shower bracket in the main bathroom on the first floor 3) Replacement of the bulb in the outdoor light in the garden, so that guests returning in the dark can safely navigate the pathway, which has multiple levels and steps to negotiate 4) Update information on local attractions, as some of this information is over five years out of date 5) Add a cafetière to the kitchen, as many guests like to buy fresh coffee to brew during their stay Finally, there is a strong smell of petrol fumes in the ground floor of the property owing to a lack of ventilation in the ground floor bathroom. Sorting this out would vastly improve enjoyment of the property.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your review, we are sorry you found the property neglected. The property is always checked before the season but obviously there will be lots of wear and tear as the property is constantly let from Easter and we don't really have a chance to go in but we do make sure that everything is renewed yearly and in good condition. We have just had our annual inspection from Cottages.com where we retained our 4 star grading and everything was deemed in good order. We certainly appreciate the recommendations you made and can confirm that we have been to the cottage this week and have repaired the shower clip with a stronger chrome one, fitted a sensor light outside the back door and have put a new cafetiere in the kitchen, we did have one there which appears to have gone so we have replaced it. We will look at the literature as we tend to leave leaflets that other people have left but we can easily remove it and replace that. The mattress is actually only 2 years old and fitted with toppers for comfort. We will certainly look at what has happened to it and if it is uncomfortable. We have this week added new sofas to the lounge. We do improvements every year to the property but unfortunately not everyone takes care of the house as much as you would wish. We have dealt with urgent repairs such as the aerial and if the boiler breaks down and the majority of our guests have had a lovely holiday in Hazeldene We are confident it is still a lovely house and well maintained, we are also getting wifi fitted this winter.

We quite enjoyed our first visit to Cornwall and had a loveley homebase in Hazeldene. We loved the cosy house which we found very well equipped and comfortable. Felt "at home". Lovely maritime decoration! Had excellent weather and beautiful excursions. Some well placed spotlights in the living room for good reading conditions and Wi-Fi would have been great, of course. A big Thank You to the Lady who keeps the house so tidy and neat!

Had a fantastic break at this lovely cottage. Great location for taking advantage of the shops, cafes, pubs etc of Tintagel and for visiting some beautiful places without having to drive too far. We found the property to be clean, comfortable and relaxing and the owners helpful, so don't be put off by the negative comments. As other reviews note there is no Wi Fi, but nor does it claim to have and although it would be handy, it's not the end of the world. Also whilst the freezer is not very big, we found it quite adequate for 5 people during our stay. We did have some issues with the TV, which the owner tried to rectify by getting an engineer in to check and adjust the aerial. As we had taken some DVDs with us anyway this was not a major problem. Also, as one review notes, wardrobe space is very limited. Having read that in advance, we took a cheap clothes rail from Argos and so it did not cause us a problem. These minor points aside we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and our kids are already asking if we can go again next year, which we will definitely be considering.

Nice house in a great location. Few minutes walk to centre of village and a good base for short drives into other areas of north Cornwall. Great bathroom and comfy beds upstairs, comfortable furniture downstairs. Mobile phone reception...4G is a bit hit and miss in the area but we had good phone reception with both EE and O2. Had a problem with TV receiving ITV but owner was very helpful and was addressing the problem while we were there. That said, lack of ITV reception didn't spoil our holiday! There are some lovely walks in the area with beautiful coastal views. Overall a good stay at Hazeldene, it was our second visit and we would stay there again.

House was in need of TLC so was the garden old uncomfortable furniture and beds lack of storage no WIFI tv didnt work raised concerns before we went was reassured but not correct. Bulbs gone mice in garden i could go on and on came home early.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We do check and refresh the house before and after the season, sometimes guests are harder on the decor than others but it is repainted and refreshed annually. Broken and missing things are continually replaced. We do have a gardener who cuts the lawn regularly throughout the season. We do not advertise that we have Wi-Fi. There was an issue with the TV but we had an engineer to look at it as it was still in warranty and it was fine. The issue was a missing amp in the aerial. We cannot always get the engineer to call when there is agreeable access to the property, however you can see from the later review that the issue is now resolved. All the furniture is of a high standard with good mattresses and protectors; we have a new garden picnic bench. The property is in a rural location and sometimes might have mice in the garden from under a tree or from the traditional Cornish stone wall. If there were any signs of infestation we would deal with it. The housekeeper could have been alerted to any light bulbs going when she came in to do your weekend linen change but you didn't mention any concerns at all, we keep spare bulbs in the drawer of the dining room unit. As it was bright midsummer our housekeeper might not have been aware of lights not working unless a guest mentions it. We made sure the changeover for you was completed early as requested for your early arrival. We are sorry you didn't enjoy your stay in Cornwall; we do try and make sure the house is a great base to stay in but appreciate sometimes when you are unhappy you focus on every negative thing possible. I do think a score of 1 is unfair, bringing our total average score right down as is leaving the heating on full blast in July when you leave. Fortunately we have had other guests staying who have enjoyed their holidays and we will of course stay ourselves and check over our house in the winter.

The cottage was conveniently located ,kltchen equipment was good although there was no freezer and the grill had no handle. The cottage was not suited to five adults as the third bedroom was only a boxroom being 6 ft x 10ft with no hanging space for clothes and no latch on the door which had to be wedged shut. The sash window would only open at the bottom making ventilation unsafe for a child. The only hanging place for clothes was a single 2 ft wardrobe in the double bedroom. There was no wardrobe in the twin bedroom even though there was enough space to have one. The outsides of the windows had not been cleaned for some considerable time, judging by the build up of cobwebs and debris. I improvised by cleaning the windows with the floor mop provided. On the positive side the interior was clean, the living area comfortable and the bathroom magnificent. T.V. reception, however, was unacceptable in that no ITV programmes were available. Next door at "Irisdene" all programmes were received. There was no evidence of an outdoor aerial on "Hazeldene" I do not think that this particular property is up to your usual standards.

The bathroom and kitchen were exceptionally clean and well equipped and decorated to a high standard. Unfortunately the living room let the property down as the sofas were old and needed replacing and uncomfortable to sit on. The garden was messy with weeds and no flowers at all. We did not have a key to the front door which was embarrassing when a few people knocked on the door and in my view was a fire hazard. We were unable to get the basic TV channel ITV which was disappointing. We would visit this property again if these concerns were addressed.
