An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

Description

Enjoy a stroll in the 2-acre gardens of this spacious, characterful Georgian property which is well placed for the Lakes, Dales and Bowland Forest.

Hazel Grove House is a wonderful Georgian residence, originally a farmhouse, which has benefited from extensive upgrading. Notable changes were made by a gentleman doctor owner in the 1840s, and full renovation by the current owner, who lives in an adjoining cottage, means that the property offers an excellent level of comfort and facilities. Spacious and well-presented living spaces provide families and groups the flexibility to spread out a little and utilise the space to their own requirements. The kitchen flows beautifully into the dining area, sure to be a hub for socialising and enjoying time shared around the table. The more formal drawing room is complemented by the cosy snug, complete with a wood-burning stove for cosy evenings in, and the additional relaxation area on the top floor allows guests a separate TV or quiet area. The generous bedrooms are beautifully presented and benefit from bathroom facilities for each room. Guests will no doubt appreciate the convenience of such an arrangement when holidaying in larger numbers.
Whilst first impressions portray a grand country residence with a formal frontage, the charm of the original farmhouse remains, giving a homely and comfortable feel to this spacious property. Sitting in 2 acres and tucked away in countryside on the edge of the Lakes, this fabulous holiday property has a lot to offer families and groups of friends looking for a high standard of accommodation in a most convenient location.
The delightful formal gardens, with year-round interest, are a joy to wander around, being well stocked with a variety of colourful and scented plants. Nature lovers will delight in the regular visits to the gardens of the roe deer and fallow deer which inhabit the surrounding fields, as well as hedgehogs, frogs, toads, a green woodpecker, curlews, herons, pheasants and owls. A short drive away in the Silverdale and Arnside AONB, birdwatchers will delight in Leighton Moss, home to the BBC’s Spring Watch.
Hazel Grove House offers an ideal location from which to explore a choice of popular destinations within a 30-minute drive, including The Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland. The popular market towns of Kendal and Kirkby Lonsdale are both well worth a visit, offering a selection of cafés, bars and restaurants for all tastes and occasions, along with a good mix of independent traders and popular stores. For those drawn to the coast, the Kent Estuary and Morecambe Bay are within easy reach, and walkers and cyclists will enjoy the routes available for all abilities. Inland, Farleton Knott is a popular local attraction and visible from the gardens, and from here and neighbouring Hutton Roof Crags, the Lake District Fells across Morecambe Bay can be seen, as well as the Howgill Fells and Middleton Fells in the Yorkshire Dales, together with the moors of Bowland Forest. Farleton Knott has some of the best-preserved limestone pavements in Britain and is a designated SSSI. Beach 4 miles. Shop 500 yards, pub 1 mile, restaurant 2 miles.

The house is well located and spotlessly clean. The owner was helpful and very attentive both before our arrival and throughout the stay. The linens were good quality which added a bit of luxury to the property. However I would need to question the overall tag of "luxury " which is attributed to the house. The kitchen/dining area was good although a larger freezer for 12 people would have been more welcome particularly as there is definitely space for one. Our biggest problem was with the lounges. The front lounge was comfortable, but the fact that the wood burner did not work in here was very disappointing. It is a bright room which we could have made more use of if it could have been made more cosy. The TV lounge sofas were uncomfortable and one was so difficult to relax on - very firm and we kept sliding down . Added to this there was a huge tear in one of the arms which was covered by a throw. Many of the cushions were spilling out of the covers, which certainly did not live up to the boast of "luxury" accommodation. This room had more of a residential home feel about it, with the random mix of chairs and sofas. The double bedroom on the second floor had rusty stains on the wall which was unsightly. Overall the house seemed tired with all the dark old furniture. I understand that it is a period property but to claim that it is one of the best places we have stayed would be untrue. Sadly we would not return as there are better properties available in the same price range.

Great holiday, house has everything in you might need. Great location for getting out and about. You will need to drive to the local as the route back is pretty dark depending on the time but they are all nice pubs.

We enjoyed a wonderful family get-together at Hazel Grove House. My grandchildren loved hunting for the fairies in the garden - thank you Divinia for making that such fun, also thank you for our welcome goodies. We all loved the space, particularly the amazing kitchen and the huge dining table. Having all en-suite bedrooms gives such excellent facilities and we highly recommend this holiday property.

We were a party of 3 families with a total of 11 aged from 13yrs to pensioners, we were there to celebrate my daughters significant birthday (the one where life is said to begin) as a surprise gift for her and she was delighted with the house and deemed it 'perfect'. Hazel Grove is a beautiful old Georgian house with all the comforts of home - the house is large enough for everyone to have their own space, the beds were all very comfortable -and all bedrooms are ensuite so no queues for bathrooms or loos. The teenage boys loved the attic space to connect their games to the TV; the quiet lounge was great for all to get together and chat with a glass of wine, the main TV was only watched by the men for the footy! The kitchen is well equipped and we loved the Aga range - perfect for a slow cooked roast. The welcome buns were a nice touch too. The only minor issue for us was a failure in the heating on our last night but it was put right as quickly as possible. All in all we loved it and would return.

Fantastic location and beautiful setting. The house was well equipped and suited the needs of our family of 12 plus a toddler. The kitchen and dining area were especially nice as we could prepare, cook and serve at the same time socialising. The bedrooms were comfortable as were the en suites to each room.

Friends and family celebrated my 60th birthday at Hazel Grove House. What a beautiful place!!! We all had a brilliant time, even though it rained. The house was big enough for us to have a great time inside, although we did spend most of our time around the big table chatting and playing games. The upstairs TV room kept the younger members of the party happy when they got bored of listening to us "oldies". Davina was at hand if we needed her but not intrusive and Tilly the Lurcher got on famously with Davina's dog Basil who popped into the garden to say hello occasionally. Everyone though that the standard of the house was top drawer - everything from the immaculate en suites in the lovely bedrooms to the well equipped kitchen. The gardens are beautiful too - it's a shame that we didn't get to enjoy them much. Ah well, we'll just have to make a return visit... A big thank you to Davina and Basil and the baker of the tasty cakes that greeted us on our arrival. A lovely start to a brilliant long weekend.

Possibly the best house we have taken in all respects. Perfect for a party of twelve. Excellent en suites and great kitchen dining room. We had a super time.
