Description

Relax in the private hot tub and admire the rural views before partaking in many other onsite leisure facilities and enjoying use of the 14 acre grounds.

‘‘...imbued with noble history...set in a dramatic and varied landscape...’’

Take a beautiful Peak District National Park setting, just 3½ miles from Bakewell, add a historic hall (first recorded in the Domesday Book), and an ancient cluster of listed buildings converted to form superb holiday cottage accommodation....and the result is the captivating blend that is Harthill Hall. Nestling in 14 acres of grounds on an upland called Priest’s Hill with excellent walking available from the doorstep, the properties have the use of an extensive range of leisure facilities including an indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, solarium and treatment rooms. Noble names have woven the threads of the hall’s long history including Henry de Ferrers, the Cokaynes and the Harthills. Henry VIII is also believed to have stayed at the hall.

It was here in 1259 that Sir Richard de Hartle was issued a Papal Bull by Pope Alexander II, allowing him to appoint his own chaplain. The chapel ceased its functions as a place of worship in 1546 and now takes the form of The Chapel and Hartle Cottage. The eight cottages are furnished with antiques and surround a medieval cobbled courtyard. They all retain a wealth of original features including thick stone walls, large oak beams, mullion windows and flagstone floors. Derbyshire’s bustling market towns, villages, hills, dales and rivers offer majestic scenery, and a rich variety of customs. Boasting a varied and beautiful landscape, they offer a blend of heritage, history and family attractions. The beautiful market town of Bakewell (3½ miles) is situated on the River Wye, crossed by a 13th-century five-arched bridge which has coffee shops and restaurants. Within easy reach are Matlock, Hall Leys Park, Chesterfield, Alfreton and Buxton. National Trust properties and gardens nearby include Riley Graves, Longshaw, Mam Tor, South Peak, Dovedale, Hardwick Hall and Kedleston Hall. Close by are both Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall. Games room with free wireless internet connection (1gb per day per device). Golf and horse riding are available within 5 miles. Shop 3½ miles, pub 1 mile.

Living room/kitchen with beams. Spacious dining room with double sofa bed (for +2), chandelier, dining table (converts to ¾-size billiard table), tiled floor and beams. Two double bedrooms: one with double Victorian brass bed, one with zip and link kingsize bed (can be 2ft 6in twin beds on request). Twin bedroom. Bunk bedroom (single bed above double). Easy to check in, you just get your keys out of the key safe and you’re in the cottage. The cottage was very spacious and there was plenty of room for all ten of us. Plenty of pots and pans etc so we were able to cook breakfast for everyone, the fridge is rather small though and we struggled to fit all the food in. Shower in the shower room was nice and powerful, the one in the bathroom wasn’t but it still did the job. Beds were nice and comfortable, although we were told the sofa bed wasn’t that comfortable. Our friends who started in the front double did said that the room got quite cold at night. Big spacious dining table which fit everyone around perfectly with loads more room to go at, this also turns into a snooker table which I didn’t realise when I booked so we had plenty of fun having a game. The finding room also had under floor heating which once the cottage got warm was nice and cosy in there even with it being such a big room. Lounge was nice and cosy although it could get quite chilly in there, it would be perfect with a log burner in it. Hot tub was a nice added extra, lovely and warm and right outside the dining room door so you could jump straight in it and relax. There was also a swimming pool and sauna on the complex but we didn’t use these. The cottage is set in a nice location surrounded by other cottages. We did walk to the local pubs which is around a mile and a half but is a nice walk. Views are surrounding the cottage are lovely.

Stayed with a group of friends, was surprised to see a nice cake and bottle of bubbly waiting for us upon arrival! Very nice touch. Facilities were fantastic, the cottage itself was a great size and everybody had a very enjoyable weekend, would definitely recommend this location.

Me and my family recently stayed her for my brother's 30th birthday. We had a fabulous time the cottage was lovely and in such a beautiful setting both mine and my brother's children thoroughly enjoyed everything the cottage had to offer. The hot tub was spacious and clean and the pool was lovely. Being able to book an hours private use every day was fantastic. The lady who looked after the cottages was fabulous and even brought us a cake when she realized it was my brother's birthday. The complimentary bits and pieces were such a lovely touch.

Was awesome. Had the best family weekend break ever. My only concern was the kitchen has only got a small fridge, freezer and oven when cottage is for 10 people. Surroundings are amazing.

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your review, I have installed a wine fridge in the dining room, hopefully this will help keep the wine cooled.
