We enjoyed our stay at Harp Cottage. It was a bit difficult with the dog (we did not have her when we had made the booking) as there was no fenced area in the garden. We liked the surroundings and it was possible to walk in several woodland area near the property though some paths were steep and rather rough. There is much of historical interest in the area and plenty of attractions; car trips into Mid-Wales, even as far as the coast are not difficult. The owner called us from London soon after our arrival to ensure that all was well.

This was a 3 star cottage with a 5 star view. It has the potential to be fabulous but in our opinion needs several areas attending to - shower fixing - didn't get warmer than tepid( longstanding issue), fire in lounge needs fixing so this room is warm enough in cold weather, dishwasher requires repair(longstanding issue), fans in bathroom and kitchen require repair, steps at front require refurbishment to ensure safety, decor tired.

    Response from: Administrator

Response on behalf of the owner; After extensive examination of the shower we found that the plastic control handle has cracked on the reverse side and only partially turns the spindle on the body of the control unit, thus the lukewarm shower. The wood burner was removed from our list of facilities available some time ago. The lounge reaches a temperature of around 21C after the central heating has been on for a couple of hours, this level is more than adequate according to Environmental Health. It is unfortunate that you failed to pay the £75.00 heating supplement and appear to have used around 250 litres of gas, which cost around £125.00. The Vent-Axia in the kitchen is working. The "fan (extractor) over the cooker" had a blown fuse. It is controlled by a switched fused spur. Had you of contacted me we could have rectified this immediately. The bathroom fan, again this works, but it has an isolator switch in the hallway and this was turned off, I can only presume by a previous guest who didn't like the fact that the fan is timed to run on for a period of time after the bathroom has been used. It can seem quite noisy at night as the place is virtually silent then, we have had people complain that they cannot get to sleep at night because it is so quiet. The dishwasher is an ongoing problem that I thought had finally been cured. If the next engineers visit does not solve this, we will install a replacement machine. The wooden steps lead up from the drive to the garden path, not to the door. These are in the garden where it rains and snows etc. There is an alternative route to the front door along the drive and across the patio, this could have been used, also, there is a 25kg bag of rock salt in the garden just by the recycling bins for guests use if the steps were slippery due to the snow. Unfortunately upon your departure we found the property to be left in an unacceptable condition which therefore required extra cleaning, so much so that had we another booking commencing that day we would not have been ready for the new guests. We do however welcome all constructive feedback in order to maintain our property to its highest standards.
