A gem of a cottage set in idyllic countryside, but easy to find and less than fifteen minutes drive from the town of Mallow. Castlerochetown is even closer, with well-stocked shop, more than one pub(!), and easy roadside parking. The property itself is immaculate, one of half-a-dozen enclosing a farmhouse courtyard with flowerbeds, easy parking, and laundry-room. A shared but secluded garden with patio seating area is ideal for warm evenings, a lazy afternoon, and safe for children. Inside the cottage literally shone, spacious with traditional reproduction furnishing, and every facility in the kitchen area. Plenty of extras to get you going on your arrival - including cream tea and a generous supply of firewood. There are storage heaters in each room so you can heat the space you need. We arrived in September, and although the evenings were quite chilly, we nevertheless had plenty left on our meter card at the end of our seven-night stay. The no fuss and very helpful owner will top your meter card up for you, so you don't have to worry about having to go out to do this. Harkaway Cottage is the sort of place you return to - and don't really want to leave.

Fantastic cottage, with very high spec. throughout. We should have been in a 2 bed, but were put in a 3 bed. The whole cottage was superb and the owner was lovely and very helpful. the Welcome pack of milk and biscuits etc was a lovely touch. We didn't use the games room or garden as no kids with us and weather was typically Irish, but would be great if you did have kids. It's about 10 mins from Mallow, where we had a great meal in The Gallery restaurant and about 30 mins from Cork. So a bit out of the way, but was fine. The only down side was the cost of electricity, which you have to pay for. We put 20 Euros in when we got there at 6pm and the cottage was cold, so put the rads on and there was only 5 Euros left when we got up the next day! It was better after that, and there were electric blankets in the beds, so that was fine, but we ended up boiling a kettle to wash with as the immersion for bath or shower was so expensive. There was a real fire with logs which made the lounge very cosy, but the bedrooms were never warm, even with rads on. But overall, very good and would highly recommend it, but bring warm clothes.
