On the Marlborough Downs, this lovely cottage is close to the Ridgeway Trail, and Hungerford and Newbury are easily reached.

This holiday cottage is set in Aldbourne, the ‘picture postcard’ village in a valley on the Marlborough Downs, 6 miles north east of Marlborough, and is part of the North Wessex Downs (AONB). An episode of ‘Dr Who’ was filmed here and ‘Easy Company’ was based here during the war. Marlborough, Hungerford and Newbury are within a short drive. The Ridgeway Trail lies on the village boundary as do many footpaths and bridleways. Many visitors come to Wiltshire to see the crop circles and the chalk white horses on the hillsides. Avebury is famous for its stone circle which is larger and older than Stonehenge. Only 10 minutes from the M4 allows easy access to the city of Bath and the Cotswolds. Shop, pub and restaurant 20 yards.

Ground floor: Living room with single sofa bed (for alternative sleeping). Dining room/kitchen. First floor: 1 double bedroom. Bathroom with shower attachment and toilet.

Gas central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Freeview TV. Electric cooker. Washing machine. On road parking. Welcome pack. No smoking.

A beautiful little cottage. Had everything you need to make a few meals if you needed. Good heating system and some nice puzzles! Excellent location with well equipped local shop. Will definitely recommend to friends and family.

The upstairs is lovely, but downstairs is dark and cramped. Sofa bed does not open out unless you turn it round. It is probably best for a couple who can share the bedroom.

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comments. Our cottage is one bedroom, clean fresh and functional as a base to explore the beautiful downs. Visitors are also welcome to make use of our community patio area just outside and the Community Junction room next door free of charge - you might even like to browse through the charity shop for a bargain or two! As routine to ensure the highest quality is maintained, we are redecorating throughout and since August it has only been advertised for two people, although the John Lewis sofa bed is still there in case people wish to use it.

I am not sure about the value , this being my first rental I have no point of comparison but it seemed reasonable. Generally the equipment was first class but it was not possible to fully extend the sofa bed; this was an inconvenience.

Lovely, cosy cottage, perfect for me and my two spaniels. The pub does great beer but the pub dog is a bit grumpy. The locals are mostly friendly, although I did get a few suspicious looks the first couple of days. Lots of great walks from the door, with lots of opportunities to let the dogs off the lead.
