An excellent location and a clean house. However the place is badly let down by a tiny kitchen in which it is not possible for two people to eat at comfortably and a strong and extremely unpleasant smell of damp which pervades the place even with the windows open on a warm day. The accommodation is described as 'spacious' which it most certainly is not! A separate charge is made for heating and it would be much better if this was included in the rental price. A separate charge is also made for towels, if required, but ours did not appear until the second day and then we found the bath towels far too small to easily dry an adult (not oversize) body. These comments were shared with the owners before uploading as feedback, and the response, though prompt, was extremely disappointing. We certainly would not return.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Glad to hear you enjoyed the location and found the house clean. We were however very disappointed with your score after doing our very best to accommodate your needs all week. We are also sorry that the Annexe didn't meet your expectations, as you only stayed in there for your last night. We were more than willing to help you have an enjoyable holiday by agreeing to your request to accommodate you in the house at almost break even cost to ourselves, after the extra cleaning needed and repair to the pull switch in the en-suite bathroom which was found draped over the radiator after your departure. We have been in contact with the caretaker and other guests and they didn't find any evidence of damp or damp smell. Many of our guests return year after year. The description and photos are all done by the agent after a rigorous annual inspection and show the cottage as a true reflection in its own private garden. We did apologise for the towels not being there for you, the caretaker brought them round as soon as we became aware that they had been missed. The size of the towels are a standard size, hand towel and bath towel each, we weren't aware that there were different sized bath towels. As we were never asked about the size we couldn't anticipate that you wanted bath sheets. Never before has anybody commented on the size of the bath towels. The majority of our guests bring their own and the cost is what it cost us for the laundry. Everything is explained on the agent’s website before you book, any extras that might be requested. We are sorry you found our response disappointing; we were only trying to explain the situation.

Although at first glance this is a lovely cottage, it is in need of some serious work. The lounge is lovely and contains the only mirror that I could use! However the TV, although modern and a good size, needs an outdoor aerial for better reception. The kitchen is adequately equipped but a few things need replacing, like the non stick frying pan which has lost all it's non stick due to the fact there are no non stick utensils to use. On to the bedroom. This needs a complete overhaul!! The bed and bedding look very tired and old and need replacing. The wardrobe would not take much to fall apart and when we got there was an inch thick in dust on the top, so much so, that the first thing we did was get out the vacuum cleaner and Hoover it away! This was not just a weeks worth of dust, this was several weeks worth! In the bathroom, both the bath and the toilet seat are cracked. A bit disconcerting, to say the least, when you have to stand in the bath to have a shower!! A shower cubicle would be better, there really is no need for a bath in a holiday cottage. But the worst thing of all in the bathroom was the state of the toilet brush!! I am sorry I cannot describe it except to say it made me feel quite ill! We immediately threw it straight in the bin outside and went out the next day and bought a new one!! It only cost us a £1, so there is no excuse for this not to be replaced every week! Despite all this, we enjoyed our trip to Anglesey and will definitely holiday in the area again. Just not at Halcyon Annexe.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We welcome constructive criticism to continually improve our service to our guests. In the opinion of the majority of our guests and ourselves we feel your criticism is rather harsh, considering you arrived at 2.00pm when the changeover time is 4.00pm. Following conversation with the caretaker and cleaners they said they felt harassed and rushed by your presence, and that's why some things may have got missed, as they didn't expect anyone to arrive so early. We have sought advice from a TV engineer and he told us an outside aerial would not improve reception and that the best option is an indoor aerial with a booster like the one we have. The bedding was all replaced at the beginning of the season, as was the bed and after speaking to the caretaker she confirms that the wardrobe is not falling apart. I am 6ft tall and I can't see on top of the wardrobe. It must have been very difficult for you to see the top without climbing up on something to have a look, let alone hoovering it. It is usually cleaned by way of wet dusting; even this is quite difficult due to its proximity to the ceiling. We are unaware of any crack in the toilet seat, we do know about the bath and on the advice of a plumber have been advised it is just cosmetic, the bath doesn't leak and is not dangerous. Having no need for a bath in a holiday cottage is your opinion, we cater for all ages and all tastes, and some people like a bath. That's why we give our guests the option. We can only presume that the toilet brush was missed, due to your early arrival, if it was as you say. Never before has any guest commented on the state of the toilet brush, l am quite sure and have full confidence in the caretaker and cleaners, that if they had found it, as you say, it would have been replaced.

The cottage was very clean and in an ideal spot for touring Anglesey and North Wales. There was a beach convenient for the cottage and it was convenient to all the other beaches in the area as well.

A great cottage in a good location. Well equipped and comfortable. Only suggestions would be a little bit of work in the bathroom and bigger and lower mirrors in bathroom and bedroom as they are useless to a shorter person!!!! A washing line would have been useful. However, we enjoyed our stay at the cottage.
