Description

Stunning period house, ideal for larger groups, 100ft water frontage and private mooring, St Olaves and Somerleyton boat ride away.

Enjoying over 100ft of water frontage, with a private mooring and slipway, Gunton Lodge is one of the premier detached period houses built along Oulton Broad, in the National Broads National Park. A large sunny south-facing garden leads to the water’s edge, accessing a wealth of family watersports activity on the enclosed waters of the broad. A rowing boat can be made available for guests’ use by prior arrangement. Alternatively, simply relax and enjoy stunning views across the broad and surrounding countryside from the house, the lawn or the summer house by the water’s edge. This luxury property has been thoughtfully decorated throughout and all of your holiday needs considered. The large open plan living area is surrounded by large windows, flooding the room with natural light. The master bedroom has French doors leading onto a large decked balcony with stair access up to the turret room – a fabulous spot for enjoying the often spectacular sunsets! Oulton Broad is a haven for wildlife and water sports such as fishing (seasonal, licensed), sailing (RYA training centre), windsurfing and rowing. Numerous footpaths rich with wildlife and scenic cycle rides can be accessed from the house. A short boat ride across or short walk around the broad leads to the charming village of Oulton Broad with its waterside cafes, shops, restaurants, bars and park with a well-equipped children’s play area and tennis courts. Or go upriver in a day boat and discover charming waterside pubs and restaurants and pretty broads villages, such as Beccles, St Olaves and Somerleyton. The popular Blue Flag beaches of Lowestoft and Gorleston are close by, and further afield, picturesque drives lead into the Suffolk and Norfolk countryside with its many excellent gastro pubs, and to the Suffolk Heritage Coast including Southwold, Walberswick and Aldeburgh. Nearby stately home and gardens at Somerleyton also make an enjoyable day out. Shops 500 yards, pub and restaurant ¾ mile.

The kitchen was very well stocked for appliances, equipment and kitchenware. The bedrooms were large, had lovely views, good furniture, comfortable beds and bedding although beds could be larger. The open plan kitchen, dinning, lounge and conservatory was very sympathetic to large family needs with two television areas and sound systems throughout the three story house. The large garden was to grass down to the water's edge with a well stocked summerhouse and accesss to a rowing boat and kayaks. The local speedboat races were exciting to watch from the bottom of the garden at weekends and Thursday evenings. Local amenities were plentiful for a week's stay but take your bike as there is a lot to explore. A very comfortable and friendly house. We shall visit again!

A beautiful property in a fantastic location. The only quibble was the lack of"spares". There was one, open toilet roll in each toilet and one black bag in the kitchen bin - no spares! We had to provide cling film and foil - not expensive, but would have been easier to find them in a drawer - and there were only 3 dishwasher tabs - not much for 11 of us. The "welcome tray" consisted of some tea bags, hotel-style coffee sachets, little pots of UHT milk and mini packets of shortbread biscuits. These minor short comings rather marred a fabulous property which was so well equipped in every other area. Still we would be back like a shot!

One of the nicest houses we have stayed in, absolutely lovely, very spacious, kids thought it was great, especially the garden and the little house down there. We're hoping to re visit one summer if available.

THE ONLY PROBLEMS WE HAD - WERE THE BEDS WERE NOT BIG ENOUGH - DOUBLES SHOULD BE KING SIZE - AND THE SINGLES - A COUPLE WERE NOT VERY COMFORTABLE . ALSO - A SMALL POINT - NO UMBRELLA FOR OUTSIDE GARDEN TABLE . OTHER THAN THAT - WE HAD A WONFERFUL TIME - AND EVERYTHING ELSE WAS WONDERFUL - MET OUR EXPECTATIONS .

We had a great stay at Gunton Lodge. It is a beautiful house set in a fantastic location. I have been booking the houses for our annual trip away across the Southeast for the last four years and we all agreed that this was the best so far, I'm going to have my work cutout trying to beat it in 2016! Highly recommended.
