Nestling in a quiet hamlet in the heart of Brittany, this pretty 16th-century stone-built cottage and converted water mill are set amidst acres of idyllic grounds, complete with river, mill pond and a large stocked lake with trout (free fishing available for guests). Lovingly restored and traditionally decorated by the British owners, incorporating beamed ceilings and log burners. The quaint mill house "Le Moulin" with its millstream trickling alongside, provides cosy accommodation for two, with views across the mill pond and lakes from its rear patio, while the spacious "Maison de Niziau" features exposed stonework and a pretty patio overlooking the river. The surrounding countryside is perfect for walking and cycling. The historic town of Pontivy, with its château set on the River Blavet, weekly market and restaurants serving traditional Breton fayre is 12km away. Also within easy reach are the lake of Guerlédan and slightly further afield, Mûr de Bretagne, with their beaches and watersports. The coast is easily accessible, with the Golfe du Morbihan, inner sea, well worth exploring. Carnac is renowned for its rows of 2000 standing stones which constitute the most important prehistoric site in Europe. A perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of ones busy life. The setting is almost magical in its location, however, it is not the usual French get away as there are no local shops or cafes nearby where one can idle a fews hours relaxing and getting to know the locals. It's either drive or stay put. But if you can bring in every drink and food you can think of this is the perfect holiday to get back to nature. (by the way, we live in the heart of the countryside so this is not a 'townie' talking)

Location ideal for warmer weather visiting with the lake and outdoor living space. There are 2 other cottages in the vicinity which may not suit those wishing for a quiet break if all cottages are full. However, there was only the 2 of us and it was ideal in spite of it being October . Large lounge and well equipped kitchen. Good central heating and a log fire. Overall a comfortable stay.

The cottage is lovely and the setting beautiful. Because of the lake and streams around it feels quite damp, but we stayed in September so it may not be an isuue during the summer months. Lindy was very helpful and patient with all of our requests :-) The stairs in the cottage are very steep so anyone with mobiliy issues would struggle. We had a lovely and relaxing time and I caught my first ever fish! :-) The directions to the cottage are not very clear and accurate, it took us over half an hour of driving around to find it. All in all, very pleasant and we would visit again.
