English Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

This five star thatched property is simply beautiful and has a romantic ambiance which is perfect for a couples retreat.

If you are looking for something a little special to celebrate an occasion or looking for that extra bit of comfort after long day walking or exploring then look no further than the cottages at Glasses Farm. Nestling in the pretty landscape within Exmoor National Park, Grooms Lodge (ref: EVA) and Stable Cottage (ref: EVB), have been converted form the original stables of an impressive 16th century thatched long house. Both these thatched cottages have been presented to a very high standard. The cottages offer a peaceful haven away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Each cottage has a private sitting-out area that looks out across the well-maintained shared garden. There are a further 20 acres of land to enjoy too. The owner of the cottages is a renowned breeder of American miniature horses. Should you choose to come and stay with friends, the cottages do have an adjoining door on the first floor. The cottages are located just outside the charming village of Roadwater, where there is a shop and pub all within walking distance of the cottages. There is superb scenery and walking on the South West Coastal Path or inland on Exmoor, and many other places to visit to make a memorable holiday. The Victorian villages of Lynmouth and Lynton, famous for the Watersmeet Gorge (NT), Valley of the Rocks and the funicular cliff railway. Looking towards Minehead, there is the promenade to enjoy walking and an ice cream, as well as having a good array of shops and other amenities. The West Somerset Railway is worth a visit for those with an interest in stream engines. Dunster Castle (NT) and village, with its beautiful terraced gardens, Deer Park and Mill will make for an interesting day out, as well as Porlock Weir. There are beaches at Dunster and Blue Anchor for all to enjoy. Shops 500 yards, pub 300 yards.

Large, beamed kitchen/dining room with slate floor. Double bedroom with 6ft bed and en-suite bathroom with bath, separate shower cubicle and toilet. First floor: Large, beamed living room.

Lovely village with easy access to main routes, ideal for exploring the area. Ann and Ken were good hosts who were there if needed. The cottage was spacious and well equipped with a lovely sitting area in both the kitchen and upstairs living room , and the bathroom had a great shower and bath. The weather was awful when we stayed so we were very happy that the local pub was only a short walk away and had very good food. Good wifi was an added bonus as we stayed in more than we would do normally.

Lovely cottage which has high quality fittings and furniture. There is wifi and the upstairs area is spacious. The surrounding area is beautiful and it's quiet. The owners are friendly enough. But (and this is a biggie) it was let down by cleanliness. The kitchen bathroom etc were spotless but there were old cob webs and spiders all around the house, which a simple dusting would have sorted. Having grown up in a converted barn I was surprised they didn't stay on top of this. The bed is king size at the expense of bedside tables; maddening for bookworms! A double would be better and easier to get at. Wifi works if you turn off the repeater upstairs; needs configuring properly.

Excellent location for exploring Somerset and North Devon.Very close to coast and lots of amazing countryside walks and stunning views. Extremely peaceful and restful cottage,no light pollution and minimal road noise. Lanes around cottage are narrow with high hedges,so need to drive steadily. We took a Transit and a motorbike,so had to take extra care.Parking for both was great at the cottage witha covered area for the bike which was really useful. We had wall to wall sunshine too which was the icing on the cake!

Disappointed this warm 5star cottage was let down by 'tired' bedding, towels and kitchen linen. Mis-match of old glasses and only 1 dishwasher tablet for a 4 night stay.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; I am sorry you had some complaints about your stay with us - this is most unusual. Regarding the bed linen, we provide good quality cotton sheets, likewise our bathroom towels. As for kitchen linen, that only consists of tea towels. Regarding the glasses there are 8 various glasses for two people which we consider adequate. Wine glasses are wine glasses, all the same. As for dishwasher tablets if you had contacted us you we would have gladly given you as many as needed. We live on the premises as all our guests know and if anything is found to be lacking all you have to do is ask and we will rectify it immediately. This is the first complaint we have had since we opened and I am really sorry you were disappointed.
