English Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

This five star thatched property is simply beautiful and has a romantic ambiance which is perfect for a couples retreat.

If you are looking for something a little special to celebrate an occasion or looking for that extra bit of comfort after long day walking or exploring then look no further than the cottages at Glasses Farm. Nestling in the pretty landscape within Exmoor National Park, Grooms Lodge (ref: EVA) and Stable Cottage (ref: EVB), have been converted form the original stables of an impressive 16th century thatched long house. Both these thatched cottages have been presented to a very high standard. The cottages offer a peaceful haven away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Each cottage has a private sitting-out area that looks out across the well-maintained shared garden. There are a further 20 acres of land to enjoy too. The owner of the cottages is a renowned breeder of American miniature horses. Should you choose to come and stay with friends, the cottages do have an adjoining door on the first floor. The cottages are located just outside the charming village of Roadwater, where there is a shop and pub all within walking distance of the cottages. There is superb scenery and walking on the South West Coastal Path or inland on Exmoor, and many other places to visit to make a memorable holiday. The Victorian villages of Lynmouth and Lynton, famous for the Watersmeet Gorge (NT), Valley of the Rocks and the funicular cliff railway. Looking towards Minehead, there is the promenade to enjoy walking and an ice cream, as well as having a good array of shops and other amenities. The West Somerset Railway is worth a visit for those with an interest in stream engines. Dunster Castle (NT) and village, with its beautiful terraced gardens, Deer Park and Mill will make for an interesting day out, as well as Porlock Weir. There are beaches at Dunster and Blue Anchor for all to enjoy. Shops 500 yards, pub 300 yards.

Large, beamed kitchen/dining room with slate floor. Double bedroom with 6ft bed and en-suite bathroom with bath, separate shower cubicle and toilet. First floor: Large, beamed living room.

Grooms Lodge is a lovely, comfortable cottage, well equipped with everything you would need for an enjoyable holiday. It is very spacious for two, with very good standard of fixtures and furniture. It is located just outside a small village, with a small shop and a pub, the Valiant Soldier, which serves good food, but gets very busy at weekends, however, the owner of Grooms Lodge offered to make a booking for us, if needed. The cottage is located in beautiful countryside, and is on the Coleridge Way making it ideal for walks, but it does mean driving a fair distance on single track roads to reach the A39 to visit the many other attractions in the area.

This is a beautiful property run by the loveliest hosts. The cottage is spacious and well equipped. There are two pubs nearby, both of which do reasonably priced pub food. We enjoyed our meals at both. It was an added bonus to be able to see the horses, especially the foal Dolly. I will also miss cuddles with Rosie the dog. Overall a fantastic cottage and well worth a visit.

An absolutely beautiful place to stay both in location and quality of accommodation. Everything was to hand and the mixture of modern fittings along side traditional character features of a period thatched cottage worked very well together. The jewel in the crown was the 6'6" bed which was so amazingly comfortable we overslept a few mornings, but then i suppose relaxing is what holidays are all about. It is very well situated to visit the many sights and places Exmoor and North Devon have to offer and the owners were wonderfully helpful and a fountain of information on where to go and how to get there. We're already planning to go back again as it was such a lovely place to stay and we would very much recommend it. Its really fantastic, quality accomodation and great value for money
