Description

Built with high attention to detail, this property is made with comfort in mind, making it an ideal retreat.

"A truly magical estate to escape to and unwind..."

High in the Devon hills above the Taw/Torridge estuaries Webbery Manor Estate is an oasis of rural tranquillity. Steeped in history and with several noteworthy owners, Webbery Manor Estate was first mentioned in the Doomsday Book. It was given to Nicholas the Crossbowman, by a grateful William the Conqueror as a Saxon manor. In the 17th century it passed to the Lippincott family, one of whom set sail with the Mayflower flotilla to settle in America. In the 18th century, John Cutcliffe, the grandson of the owner, fought at the battle of Waterloo and was personally promoted by the Duke of Wellington.
Set in 30 acres of parkland and woods, with grazing sheep, deer, owls, pheasant, birds of prey and other wildlife. The delightful gardens have numerous specimen trees and banks of rhododendrons giving a spectacular spring display. While the organic walled kitchen gardens grow some more unusual varieties of vegetables to the UK. You will find Romanesco, Cavelo Nero, and Pink Fir Apple potatoes to name a few, all complimentary subject to season and availability.

Once the home of the head groom this delightful cottage has been renovated to give spacious, luxurious accommodation. With its original boot room ideal for walking boots, and light and airy open-plan living/dining room/kitchen. With central, double-sided wood burning stove, keeping you toasty warm, and with French doors leading to secluded walled garden. With its impressive raised terrace it’s ideal for al fresco dining. The bespoke kitchen with its regency/gothic design and large range cooker is just the place to discuss your plans for the day. Both en-suite bedrooms overlook the secluded garden, the double has traditional French bed and the twin has period furniture.

Spend an enchanting day at Tapeley Park Gardens with its Italian garden, stunning views, woodlands and lakes, kitchen garden, tea rooms, and children’s play area. Fishing and horse riding can be found within 5 miles. Shops and pubs 5 miles.

Large open-plan living/dining room with central double-sided wood-burning stove and French doors to enclosed garden. Bespoke kitchen with range (gas hob/electric oven). Small boot room. Delightful. Wonderful cottage, deliciously comfy beds, fantastic location away from it all, gorgeous fixtures and fittings, friendly and welcoming owners. Loved every minute of it. Absolutely perfect. No negatives whatsoever. Slept like a baby and recharged batteries in peace and tranquility. Would go back in an instant. Superb.

We were very comfortable in this well-equipped house. It was close to Bideford which we love to visit, especially with the friends who were with us. We visited RHS Rosemore, which as always was a real treat. The highlight was Hartland Quay, from which there was some fantastic walking. Nearby is the Atlantic Outlet Village for shopaholics. Restaurants to visit - Memories, which was just wonderful, and the Italian Kitchen (when we finally found it) had some very succulent food. Both were great.

This was our second stay at Grooms Cottage - a really lovely cottage in a superb location. Spotless and extremely well presented on arrival, cosy and comfortable to come 'home' to after a day out. The walled garden was full of delicious fruit and veg, which the owners very generously encourage guests to harvest. The weather let us down this year, but it was no hardship at all to spend more time in the cottage relaxing and re-charging our batteries. Highly recommend.

This is a lovely cottage. The grounds it is situated in are beautiful. The cottage is very comfortable and well furnished. Would benefit from having a downstairs toilet Not many local amenities but we knew that when booking. Would highly recommend staying in any cottage on the estate, so many nice places to visit in the area

We have been undertaking a tour of the 'Shires' and have stayed in many different cottages. The 'Grooms Cottage' outshines them all. Warm, spacious, welcoming hosts, beautiful grounds, cosy fires in the evening with well stocked wood piles. Comfortable furniture and quality furnishings. All that we could have hoped for and more. A great experience.
