Very nice small cottage in an interesting location on the high street of a village. Lots of activity to see from the window with nearby all the shops you'll need, pubs, places to eat. Cottage has two lots of stairs so only for the fit. Nicely appointed, fully equipped, all that's required. Comfortable and well located for the Northumberland National Park, the Lakes, the Dales, the Coast, and many visitor sites. Would recommend for two people.

Lovely warm and cosy cottage right in centre of village with all amenities on tap, area quite remote but lots to do and see within 30/60 min drive. Bus stops outside cottage if that is your mode of transport. Cottage does have more stairs than mentioned in the right up or told of when booking, cottage has 3 levels so stairs to bedrooms and also separate stairs to the kitchen, good to know if mobility is an issue.

Lovely cottage, great location, opposite the shops, next door to the pub and plenty of parking. Decorated and furnished well, very comfortable and clean. Only one criticism is the door latch is situated too close to the weather strip. In the winter the door has swollen, which resulted in grazed knuckles when trying to get access to and from the property.

Cottage was quaint & perfect for the 2 of us. Only change I would make would be the bath. We missed the opportunity to use the real fireplace, but we'll definitely use this next time

This excellent cottage is on the main street in Bellingham. Just over the road are: a Co-op, a post office, a bakers, a butchers, a grocers, a Chinese takeaway. About 30 yards to the left of the front door is the local pub, offering excellent meals! There was parking outside the cottage. The village was busy, but not excessively so, and was really quiet at night. We were very impressed with the cottage on our arriva.. The lounge was comfortable, and the woodburner, was a real treat. The owner left a starter pack for us to use to light the fire, and wood etc can be purchased at the hardware shop, also over the road! There is also electric central heating. There is a good TV, with a selection of DVD's to watch. The kitchen is well equipped, with a proper fridge freezer, dishwasher, and washer dryer. There is plenty of cutlery, plates, bowls, mugs etc, and enough utensils and cooking equipment to cook a meal if you want to (which I did). The bedroom is spacious, and the bed and pillows are comfy. There is plenty of storage. The bath was most welcome after a hard days walking. Towels are provided. The owner left a bottle of wine and a pint of milk in the fridge for our arrival - most welcome! There is also a comprehensive instruction manual, telling you everything you need to know about the cottage and the area. There is good wifi access, but I had absolutely no mobile phone signal - about the only provider you will get a signal with in the area is EE. The owner has provided a landline phone, but you can't ring mobiles or national numbers on it, so this was not much help to us, as we are from Norfolk, and wanted to contact people in our area to let them know we'd arrived safely. We ended up using Facebook and the phone box near the cottage. The information centre in Bellingham is helpful, and within it is a museum/exhibition about the history of Bellingham - very interesting. There are several nice walks in the area, and it's not far from Kielder, and Hexham. There are also some nice National Trust properties in the area to visit - we can especially recommend Craigside. All in all we had a lovely stay in Groom Bothy, would definitely stay there again, and can thoroughly recommend it.
