Cottage was quaint & perfect for the 2 of us. Only change I would make would be the bath. We missed the opportunity to use the real fireplace, but we'll definitely use this next time

This excellent cottage is on the main street in Bellingham. Just over the road are: a Co-op, a post office, a bakers, a butchers, a grocers, a Chinese takeaway. About 30 yards to the left of the front door is the local pub, offering excellent meals! There was parking outside the cottage. The village was busy, but not excessively so, and was really quiet at night. We were very impressed with the cottage on our arriva.. The lounge was comfortable, and the woodburner, was a real treat. The owner left a starter pack for us to use to light the fire, and wood etc can be purchased at the hardware shop, also over the road! There is also electric central heating. There is a good TV, with a selection of DVD's to watch. The kitchen is well equipped, with a proper fridge freezer, dishwasher, and washer dryer. There is plenty of cutlery, plates, bowls, mugs etc, and enough utensils and cooking equipment to cook a meal if you want to (which I did). The bedroom is spacious, and the bed and pillows are comfy. There is plenty of storage. The bath was most welcome after a hard days walking. Towels are provided. The owner left a bottle of wine and a pint of milk in the fridge for our arrival - most welcome! There is also a comprehensive instruction manual, telling you everything you need to know about the cottage and the area. There is good wifi access, but I had absolutely no mobile phone signal - about the only provider you will get a signal with in the area is EE. The owner has provided a landline phone, but you can't ring mobiles or national numbers on it, so this was not much help to us, as we are from Norfolk, and wanted to contact people in our area to let them know we'd arrived safely. We ended up using Facebook and the phone box near the cottage. The information centre in Bellingham is helpful, and within it is a museum/exhibition about the history of Bellingham - very interesting. There are several nice walks in the area, and it's not far from Kielder, and Hexham. There are also some nice National Trust properties in the area to visit - we can especially recommend Craigside. All in all we had a lovely stay in Groom Bothy, would definitely stay there again, and can thoroughly recommend it.

Great place, really good for the owners to leave a welcome pack. Nice and clean. Also left my bracelets which were both returned, for which I was most grateful. The village has co-op and a great little bakery, just a little too far from everywhere else! Food in the pub was all right but welcome made up for what the food lacked. Nice walk up the waterfall. Thanks!

A very small amount of niggles which were of little consequence, for example catching your knuckles against the door frame when closing the front door. A lovely village with a good community spirit. All shops and pubs very close, though CAMRA has missed an opportunity in that it has not reviewed the pubs in the village.
