Welcome Cottages

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

This holiday cottage is set in a rural location, with a patio area that has some stunning views of the countryside.

Set in the picturesque Dorset countryside, in the heart of what was the Royal Stud, Green Oak Cottage is a great base to explore all that this area of Dorset has to offer. Beautifully furnished with original art works, the cottage has recently undergone a stylish facelift, and along with major changes to the grounds, it has a comfortable interior and a private patio area. The double bedroom has views over open countryside, whilst the twin bedroom looks over the surrounding fields. Linked to the owner’s house, the cottage now sits on the edge of cider orchards where the award-winning Copse House cider is made.

This is a great place for long walks across the Blackmore Vale, there are several footpaths within easy reach, many of which lead down into the village of Buckhorn Weston and the local pub. Shaftesbury, with its links to Hovis and the famous Gold Hill, is only 6 miles away, and slightly further afield, within an hour’s drive, is the Jurassic Coast. The A30 and A303 are easily accessible, and nearby attractions include Stourhead House and Gardens (National Trust), Longleat Safari Park, Haynes Motor Museum, RNAS Yeovilton, and Sherborne Castle. Other places of interest are the cities of Salisbury and Bath. Shop 1 mile, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

The cottage was perfect for our weekend away - beautifully furnished, with a real attention to detail. Spotlessly clean and a most welcome basket of goodies to enjoy. We had such a glorious time exploring the many local attractions and enjoying the patio garden with stunning views over the fields - al fresco dining with sunshine in April! Great walks in the area and another good lunch at one of our favourite pubs in Buckhorn Weston - the Stapleton Arms. We have already booked for the Autumn. The hosts were in contact to ensure we had everything we could possibly need for a super break. Thank you.

Such an amazing cottage, the owners are fantastic, it really is a countryside escape, plenty of room for supplies and facilities to cook. We will return again and again, plus our dog loves it there!

We had a most pleasant and relaxing stay at the cottage. The cottage itself was second to none in its condition, cleanliness and location. We were also most struck by the overall silence in the area at night being used to residing near the somewhat conjested and rumbling A27. We would not hesitate in recommending the cottage to our family and friends for a stay. As we said in the visitors' book there is a corner of this planet that is forever England and that is Green Oak Cottage.

A lovely little cottage with a nice view and really friendly and helpful owners. Nice little extra touches like arrival gifts make it feel more special. Wifi and phone signal very weak and temperamental, but can be good to get away from all that!

Just my wife and I stayed for a week, so we had plenty of space. Cottage was spotlessly clean and extremely well equipped. Jane and David made us very welcome but left us to enjoy our holiday. The beds are very comfortable and the nights are so dark and quiet that you can't fail to sleep well. Lovely sunsets to be seen from the patio when the weather is right. We had a lovely stay and would happily pay a repeat visit. David is building a new holiday chalet next door which looks fabulous. Be sure to look at that when it is finished!

To start with positives: 1) Very nice and friendly hosts 2) A 'character' home (though I prefer Modern homes) 3) Nice little garden and views to Cattle grazing. Not so right (for me & my family): 1) Location is not great except for limited view to cattle grazing, there is nothing in this area. 2) As this property is located in a village, suffered very very poor mobile network/signals and almost zero internet. (has a wifi router but hardly get internet -wifi) Thought of enjoying a movie after day out, however TV is not smart and also no WIFI (proper). 3) Steps were too steep- not child friendly 4) It would have been very handy if basic amenities were supplied Milk , bread, Coffee machine etc were supplied. ( I had assumed these, from my previous stay which had all these supplied). However, As mentioned above, nothing wrong with the property but may be not the right one for us (with baby) looking for modern with fantastic location at best price.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We do not take children under 5 years of age (clearly stated on the website), so perhaps they measured their stay at Green Oak Cottage against an establishment and areas suitable for children under this age. We do leave a welcome pack which is usually gratefully received, and we always offer the opportunity to request any additional items that were not already supplied. This guest did not make any requests. Broadband is supplied, its quality is totally beyond our control and it worked fine during their stay at its usual gentle Dorset speed; this cannot match the speed and expectation supplied in towns and cities. The television is brand new with a full free view package, alongside this a range of films are available on DVD. The stairs match current building legislation and are no different to those found in modern houses at this time. We are within a 10mile radius of several high quality tourist attractions, and Green Oak Cottage is surrounded by field and orchards and far reaching views, in the heart of what was the Royal Stud. We are saddened that this guest felt it necessary to pick up on so many negatives during their two-night stay; this was clearly in relation to their personal family requirements with a small child under 5.
