Description

This property is located just 500 yards away from the heart of the old village of Hognaston, close to Ashbourne.

These attractive stone holiday cottages enjoy their own driveways and pretty, lawned gardens. Green Farm Cottage, (ref RPP6), adjoins the owners’ 17th-century farmhouse, and Green Farm Stables (ref RFFQ), stands detached. Tucked away down a little lane, they lie 500 yards from the heart of the attractive old village of Hognaston, which stands on a hillside overlooked by Hognaston Wynn. Many houses in the village date back to the 17th and 18th century, as does the pub. Within walking distance is beautiful Carsington Water, offering superb water sports, sailing and bike hire facilities with an area devoted to wildlife along with cycle and walking trails. Located on the edge of the Peak District, the cottages are just 4 miles from the picturesque market town of Ashbourne known as the ‘Gateway to Dovedale’. Other places to visit nearby include Bakewell, Matlock Bath, Haddon Hall, Chatsworth House and Keddleston Hall, as well as other National Trust and English Heritage properties. It is only a short drive to Dovedale and the other lovely dales of the limestone White Peak District, which offers great walking. A little further afield, visit Alton Towers theme park for a great day out for both adults and children alike, who will also enjoy Go Ape at Buxton. Why not spend a more relaxing day at the potteries in Stoke. Shop 2 miles, pub 500 yards.

Spacious beamed living room with wood-burning stove and wooden floor. Spacious, beamed, farmhouse-style kitchen/dining room with stone floor. Utility. Twin bedroom. Cloakroom with toilet. First floor: Three double bedrooms, one beamed with 5ft bed, sloping ceiling and en-suite shower room with toilet. Bathroom with corner bath, separate shower cubicle and toilet.

Great cottage, cosy and well equipped. Lovely welcome by the owners. Good location close to Carsington Water and very accessible to the Peaks. Wifi in cottage but no phone reception

This is a beautiful property, really well equipped and with better quality furniture than we would normally expect in a holiday cottage. The owners obviously care about making the experience enjoyable. We like boiled eggs for breakfast and when I mentioned there were no egg cups, a set of new ones appeared the next day. The pub up the lane is easy to walk to, is old and atmospheric and serves very good food. The only slight downsides are that you have to drive the 4 miles into Ashbourne for a shop and mobile phone signal is erratic but these are prices worth paying for the lovely, rural setting.

Fantastic house and warm welcome by owners. Struggling to find fault! No phone signal ( quite nice really) but good internet .

A beautiful, spacious and well-equipped property which provided a very comfortable base for our family party (and dog). The children loved playing hide and seek in the large garden.

A great place to stay. It was very expensive but we did enjoy it a lot. It was a very cold weekend and even with the heating on, we did find it quite cold. Considering the amount we paid, we thought paying for extra logs seemed a little unfair. But overall, a great weekend away and we would return.
