We wanted an escape from 'the real world' for a week, somewhere we could just switch off and relax before our baby arrives and that is exactly what we got. Granny McPhee's is just perfect, the cottage is cosy and inviting and has everything you need for your stay. The decor is homely and stylish with a lovely, easy to light, woodburning stove, you really can just settle right in and the little touches; flowers around the rooms, cream tea in the fridge, coffee for the coffee machine, made it even better. The bed is like sleeping on a cloud, I slept better than I had for a long time, and the TV in the bedroom was a real luxury for us, films suggled up under the big soft duvet, lush!! The bathroom with its roll top bath and big shower, the fluffy dressing gowns and super smelling shower gel, just fab. It was a bit hard to adjust to the almost non-existant phone/internet signal for a while but I soon got used to that and it was quite liberating! I really cant find anything to complain about. Other than the weather! We hardly went out, but really didnt need to as staying in and chilling out was all we wanted to do and we were in the perfect setting. I loved hearing the ducks outside every morning and watching them run around; 'afro-duck' is just so funny! There are a few nice places to eat around if you do fancy it and the info book has details of these, the chippy at Halwell Junction does battered ferrero rochers, amazing! All in all this break was just what we needed and we left feeling refreshed and with happy memories, huge thanks goes to the owners for creating such a lovely little retreat. We'd love to come back one day.

Sadly, two days in to our holiday my husband became ill and we had to make the hard decision to come home. As he was the only driver it was important to travel before he was unable to do so. This was no reflection on our holiday accomodation which met our expectations very well. Unfortunately because of bad memories, we probably wouldn't return to this cottage. The owners were very kind and understanding and we were very pleased with the milk, eggs from their own chickens, and cream tea left for us on our arrival. We had great plans to make some day trips but it was not to be.

Absolutely brilliant place to stay for a weekend away! Owners couldn't do enough to make our stay enjoyable and my only grumble would be lack of WiFi (as there is no 3g). Everything else was excellent!! I'd definitely stay here again without hesitation.
