A cosy and warm cottage for a winter weekend away. Everything you need supplied except towels and toilet paper.

Boiler was dodgy which caretaker knew about but didn't tell us, upstairs toilet was broke and flooded bathroom floor that I myself had to fix caretaker said it's fine, had to make beds and not 100% sure they were clean sheets so used own that I had taken. House is in need of a good makeover cleaned and decorated but it was somewhere to put it head down and out again first thing in morning

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; There is nothing dodgy about the boiler, it is on a full service agreement and any issues with it would be put right. We only ask that customers do not fiddle with the controls but leave them as they are set. If extra heating is required at any time there is a manual advance button on the boiler and the thermostat can be easily turned up or down. There had been a minor leak in the bathroom which a local plumber had resolved earlier but he did have to go back a second time to replace a part in the cistern which he had overlooked which caused the second leak. The laundry is washed after every holiday changeover by the caretaker/cleaner who lives in the house opposite the cottage. If there are any issues please speak to her in the first instance.

The map on booking is not accurate. It was necessary to ask the neighbors for help because the telephone numbers provided didn't work. Cleanliness could be better and basic things like soap for washing hands were lacking.

Needs a good clean. The last time we stayed there were condiments spare loo roll hand soap etc with an unspoken rule of if you finished it replace it.

We were a party of 4 walking buddies (male age 50+). There were no directions to the cottage provided and due to some dodgy navigation (our fault entirely) some of our party spent a long time hunting in the wrong village. The cottage is actually quite easy to find however on the main street of the village of Boat of Garten opposite the green and about 75 yard from the holiday park/ shop. We had some difficulty contacting the owners to arrange to pick up keys but eventually it was sorted. We never yet met anyone though as the key was simply left for us to collect. The cottage is an old building and has mostly everything you would need. The furnishings are in keeping with the type of building so don't expect modern. We found them perfectly adequate and comfortable and the place was clean enough {we are a party of 4 blokes so no serious inspections were carried out ;-) } There is plenty of space and 4 bedrooms (1 double, 2 twin and 1 with bunks). Lounge, kitchen (not a huge kitchen but fine) and dining room. One upstairs bathroom (toilet, bath and shower cubicle) and one downstairs toilet. Additional washing areas would have been a bonus and larger parties may need to consider this. No towels were provided so pack your own. Garden with patio and a small shed with a barbecue are all available. Off road parking in the drive for a couple of cars and on street parking outside shouldn't be an issue. The cottage is well situated and met our needs but some small improvements (better communication, extra shower room and providing towels) would make quite a difference). That said we felt it was decent value for our group and served us well and we would be happy enough to return. Not a patch on Silverglades in Aviemore though so it wouldn't be our first choice.

The cosy Cottage gave us a good Base for our Holiday. In the first rainy week we had nice evenings on the Fire Place. In the second sunny week it gave a good spot to start our tours accross the country. We`ll definitely come back. Even if we have to get VISA cause of the Brexit.

A beautiful cottage but in serious need of updating, upon arrival the caretaker came over and she was very nice but we told her that there was only a few light bulbs which she told us had been taken by previous renters :-O she didn't replace the missing ones, the front room is extremely cold even with the heating on and lighting the fire, the small window in the front room needs replacing as when it is windy you can hear the noise coming through the window and it howls, the tv is small and the sofas are passed their best, you sit down and sink to the floor and have real trouble getting up also when we moved the cushions there was so much debris we could tell that it hadn't been hoovered for a while, the only comfortable seat is the arm chair which is hard when there is 4+ of you. The dining room is the only room in the house that is warm and able to accomodate comfort. The kitchen is ok even though the pots and pans have seen better days and there was food left in the freezer!!!! the washing machine and tumble dryer are a nice touch but we had to use pegs to keep the hose for the tumble dryer attached as it was badly broken. The bathroom upstairs was fine apart from the razor point didn't work. The bedrooms were very uncomfortable and the bedding really leaves a lot to be desired, the quilts are like something from the 80's, the upstairs bedroom with the double bed was extremely uncomfortable and you could feel springs digging in your hips, the 2 single beds in the other upstairs bedroom were very uncomfortable and the pillows were flat. we own a property in the USA and rent it out to people on holiday, we have agents out there who take care of it for us and they supply cleaners who clean etc, also we supply towels and bedding which on a regular basis are replaced/updated and anyproblem large or small the agents sort out even replacing light bulbs, I don't know if the owners are aware of the problems at Granite cottage and hope they read this and take it as constructive critisism. This is a beautiful cottage in a lovely locations but really needs updating.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We leave a stock of light bulbs in the cupboard under the stairs but it looks as though they have either been taken or used. Obviously the light bulbs should all work and everything should always be clean and tidy and left over food removed and I will take that up with our caretaker. The lounge is the last of all the rooms to warm up but this is a 100 year old cottage with solid granite walls and that is always going to be the case. Other than that the cottage is very warm with the heating on. The flat screen TV is 32” which is probably about right for the size of room, although maybe too small for some. The windows are all replacement double glazed UPVC windows so unless one has been damaged it should not be drafty – unless it was wind howling down the chimney? The shaver point works OK but it only turns on with the bathroom light. We will take a look at the pots and pans and other bedding / seating, etc. and see what needs replacement or repair, although most of the duvets and pillows are replaced about every 24 months. We stay at the cottage ourselves for a week every few months and can only guess that some of these things have deteriorated or been damaged since we were last there. Thank you for raising these points and they will all be looked at very shortly.

Granite Cottage was homely and comfortable accommodation for a large group. Quite a few lamps needed bulbs. Loo roll and bin liners would be useful. Overall it was great, highly recommended.
