Goulday was clean and welcoming plenty of space for 5, beds comfortable, kitchen well equipped and we really enjoyed our stay. Lovely and quiet with nice views and lots of sheep which the children loved.

Cottage lacked up to date equipment i.e. very dated television with old video recorder! No broadband or Wifi so no ability to connect to anything. SKY TV was inactive. Otherwise of a reasonable standard.

The location of this cottage is fantastic. The village is beautiful and you are in easy reach of the entire Peak District. The house is tired and out of date. Whilst it had everything we needed, we felt it was tatty and needed a lot of love to bring it into the 21st century. It has the potential to be fantastic, but falls a long way short at the moment. There are plenty of far better cottages out there.

It is in ideal postition, very quiet village, nice pub. Only downside would be no shop, so a car is required. Wonderful walks on the doorstep(no car) we found the villagers friendly. Nice garden with furniture.

This is a lovely cottage in a superb location. There are one or two improvements which could make it much better inside. The shower in the double bedroom needs replacing it is ancient! The wardrobe in the other double will only open a few inches as it hits the bed. There are over twenty dinner plates and only six mugs and the coffee maker is useless. Please urge the owners to spend a bit of money and time then they won't have to rip pages out of the visitor book when they have poor reviews.

This cottage is in a great location, but is let down by the fact that the state of the cottage itself is terrible! These are just a few of the problems we had there: - The washing machine was broken, however even if it did work we wouldn't have used it as the seal was full of mould. The machine itself and a very bad smell to it. - The aerial to the radio was broken, and they had seen fit to replace it with a coat hanger! - The oven was disgusting and full of grime, and smelt badly of grease. The controls were worn and the outside of the oven was covered in drip marks. - Some of the towels were stained with dried brown marks, I can only guess at what it was! - One of the duvets was badly ripped and had the stuffing showing. - The bath had a very bad crack in the side panel (about 12 inches long). This was sharp and not safe for young kids. - There were dirty stains in the carpet surrounding the toilet. - The fridge / freezer door was covered with muck and grime. - One of the bedrooms was full of mould around the windows. - The other bedroom was so small, that the wardrobe door hit the bed when trying to open the door. So the wardrobe door could only be half opened. - The dishwasher tray was broken, and would fall out if pulled open more than half-way. A sign from the owner asked not to leave the dishwasher unattended. - The taps in the kitchen sink were broken, and would turned around endlessly. This made it difficult to turn them off. - The TV was at least 20 years old (a minor issue, but considering the price of this cottage!) All in all the worst cottage we have stayed in. Fortunately the area is wonderful. Many people seemed to visit the Church Inn up the road, and there is a great book store nearby, the village also has a very nice playground as well as many lovely walks. This is a lovely village, and there seems to be many holiday cottages there. If you want to stay at this village, I would recommend it, but be sure to avoid this cottage until it is repaired and cleaned up.

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your Reevoo. Following your comments, there have been various changes we have made in order to rectify the issues. The washing machine has been replaced and we have purchased a new radio. The oven and dishwasher have both been replaced. The bath and kitchen taps have been renewed. We have taken your comments on board with regards to the cleanliness of the property. In order to resolve this we have had the carpets cleaned, the walls have been painted, and the tile grout and sealant have been replaced. Since your stay we have had an inspection and our 4* rating has been retained due to the cleanliness of the property.

This property is the worst holiday rental I have ever stayed in. Apart from the property being filthy in general terms, the overall state of the facilities were an absolute disgrace. The oven looked like it had NEVER been cleaned, with the inside being caked with grease and grime, never mind the fact that all of controls were so worn you would have to guess at what you were doing, and the black mould inside the washing machine, the cracked bath panel (very sharp edges) and the black mould patterns growing on one of the bedroom ceilings. Our party left the property before the end of our expected stay and went home after being generally unhappy. The one and only saving grace was the fact that the Church Inn serves fantastic quality food along with a warm welcome.
