Description

This charming holiday cottage is situated in a peaceful location yet there are plenty of nearby activities to explore.

Gorten is a charming and well-appointed holiday cottage, ideal for couples or singles, and is in a truly superb setting. It is the perfect base for peace and tranquillity within this spectacular area and is a true ’get-away-from-it-all’ experience. The historic oakwoods and lead mines of Aruindle are within walking distance of Gorten and the Ardnamurchan Peninsula has so much to offer holidaymakers including unspoilt beaches, dramatic scenery and so much history. Ardnamurchan Distillery, Nadurra, and a nature centre are only a short drive away. The Ardnamurchan Lighthouse, which is the most westerly point in Britain, and Sanna Bay with its pristine beach, are both a short drive away. Another favourite is the steam train journey from Fort William to Mallaig which was used in the Harry Potter movies. Also available in the area are activities such as mountain biking, hiking, fishing, hunting, shooting, and dolphin and whale watching. The views over Loch Sunart will amaze guests, as will the sunsets, so come and enjoy! Beach 1/2 mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 1/2 mile.

All on the ground floor.

A great restful break. Would recommend it to anyone provided they didn't book it when we want it again. *smile*

We chose to holiday in the wettest part of the UK at the wettest time of the year. It kept the midgies down though, so that was a bonus. Gorstan was a very cosy place to stay. It's in an elevated position giving good views to the North and South, and within 10 minutes walk from two bars and well stocked shops. If you take your dog, you really are spoilt for choice as you're surrounded by walks. In all, a relaxing and memorable, if wet holiday.

The holiday was good and the weather not to bad. However no mention about the ferry crossing when booking the cottage. Expensive at £8.20 one way.Kevin

Gorten is a lovely cottage with excellent views of the hills, a cosy atmosphere & all the facilities you would need during your holiday. There was a wee hiccup with the washing machine & dvd player but nothing that would spoil our holiday. We really enjoyed our week there & Strontian is a great base to tour Ardnamurchan.

The cottage is in a wonderful location with terrific views and some wonderful countryside and coast within easy reach, so long as you have a car and are comfortable with single track roads. It is cosy and pretty comfortable although the storage heaters lack flexibility and the kitchen equipment is very basic - for example there is nothing smaller than a large roasting tin to cook anything in the oven. The owners were very kind and helpful and Strontian village has a good basic store, a tourist information office and a nice pub.
