Spacious, Georgian town house, with stunning sea views, and garden down to the beach where you can explore the shoreline.

This three-storey, stone Georgian house is in a magnificent seafront location with a garden to the beach, and enjoys wonderful panoramic views over Portree Bay to the Isle of Raasay, the Cuillins and the surrounding hills. It has been decorated, furnished and equipped to a very high standard with period furniture and original works of art. Great attention has been paid to ensure guests can enjoy their holiday to the maximum in a comfortable home from home. All rooms enjoy stunning views over the sea; from your bed, watch the yachts and fishing boats sailing in and out of the bay. It is not unusual to see dolphins and seals and a great variety of birdlife. Children can comb the beach for treasures and crabs! The bay and the local pub were one of the film sets for the popular film ‘Made of Honour’. Dine al fresco in the seafront garden or just relax watching the constantly changing views, or set off on one of several walks around the coastline. Set in a peaceful yet central location, Gleniffer House is just a few minutes’ walk from the charming, quiet town centre with a large selection of shops, many with handcrafted products, pubs and a variety of excellent restaurants serving local produce and seafood. Sea trips - whether it is to see the wide variety of wildlife including the sea eagles, or to fish, - are available on the doorstep. Mountain biking, climbing, horse riding, golf and kayaking are also available. The swimming pool and leisure centre/gym are within walking distance. Skye is the walkers’ and climbers’ paradise, from the Cuillin Mountains to coastal walks. Portree is ideally placed to visit all parts of the Isle – Dunvegan Castle and the coral beach, Waternish Peninsula, Armadale ‘The garden of Skye’, the majestic scenery of the Trotternish Peninsula, Talisker Distillery, or take a boat ride through the Cuillins. From Uig, visit the Outer Isles of Harris, Lewis and Uist, whilst magnificent scenery, unspoilt beaches, castles and ancient brochs are just a taste of the wide diversity of things to see and do on Skye. Shop 50 yards, pub 100 yards.

Delightful setting for a beautifully furnished and well cared-for property. The house was elegant but still warm and cosy, with splendid views from *all* the rooms - the sun rises at the front so early morning is a delight. The Aga experience is an added bonus. Handy parking, a small but pleasant area to sit out and a great base for a Skye holiday. The house is at the heart of Portree but with a nice sense of privacy and an easy walk to any part of town.

Isle of Skye is a wonderful Island, scenery that leaves you in wonder. Everyone we met were helpful and friendly. Go prepared for all types of weather. Gleniffer House is very comfortable, situated on the harbour there is always something of interest going on.

The location was fantastic, shame the fabulous view was obscured by 2 very large trees, the iconic telephone box was filled with rubbish. Outside area needs to be prepared for guests. The aga wasn't lit when we got there which wasted 2 hrs. trying to get it sorted. Main bedroom had en-suite with no door or shower connector so not very convenient it also had a window which other members could see through [no privacy!] upstairs bathroom was the only shower with a toilet that needs to be turned round as you face the wall, it was a struggle to sit on without hitting your knees on the wall. Recent new beds where very comfortable. No outside space at rear and very limited at front for families and there were lists of rules which isn't very welcoming & covers over all of the furnishings. I think the owner needs to review what's on offer to guests. Front door could do with changing to a solid door as everyone who walks past can see in.

    Response from: Administrator

Response on behalf of the owner; It was very unfortunate that Mila had accidentally turned off the AGA while turning it up for your arrival; you were the first guests of the year. She did however arrive immediately to help you while I talked you through relighting it on the phone. In the history of Gleniffer House it is only the second time this has happened but the reason we put the controls in a box. Regarding your other issues, it is not possible to request my neighbours to cut down their tree to improve my iconic view; they did prune it this year. The telephone box stores the motor for our boat and other fishing equipment. In March gales are still prevalent on Skye, indeed there was one the next week, we cannot set out the chairs and table until May. Windborne garden furniture can cause severe damage to cars, windows and people. Our sofas are cream and the chair light beige, we do indeed provide throws. Our carpeting is also all pale colours so it is obvious they are clean. There is a small frosted glass window in the en-suite bathroom, you cannot see through it. We do not claim to have a shower in that bathroom, which as an en- suite bathroom into which you cannot see we do not have a door but a curtain. Gleniffer House is a listed building as Portree Harbour was designed by Telford. That means that we cannot make changes to the layout and the position of the toilet is not ideal, however that has not been a problem for us or the majority of guests. As home owners we strive to maintain Gleniffer House to the highest standard possible, and the majority of our guests love it. I am glad you felt the new beds were comfortable, I hope you also liked all the new decoration. Gleniffer House is a very spacious house for the maximum of 4 guests we allow.
