Welcome Cottages

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

Ideal for a couples romantic retreat, this holiday property couldn’t be in a better location. Many amenities and attractions within walking distance.

Set in lovely gardens and just a short stroll to the Helford Passage and creeks, this single-storey, wing of the owner’s home, will appeal to garden lovers, walkers and guests looking for a peaceful, tranquil setting. It neighbours two of the south west’s leading gardens, the National Trust Glendurgan Gardens which is listed in the top 5 for the whole of the south west, and also lies just a few yards from the sub tropical gardens of Trebah and the banks of the Helford River. This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has much to offer whatever the season. The Helford River, famous for Daphne Du Maurier’s novel ’Frenchmans Creek’, is a quiet unspoilt haven. The small waterfront hamlet of Durgan, owned by the National Trust, is like stepping back in time, where woodland meets the waters edge with a quiet small beach. Enjoy a meal and watch the marine activity nearby at the famous Ferry Boat Inn, a popular waterfront pub serving great food and local ales. A small ferry service takes passengers over to the village of Helford, with thatch cottages and a stream, a true Cornish post card setting. The small village of Mawnan Smith is within walking distance and offers a small square with a pub, tea rooms, restaurant and village store.

The lovely sandy beach at Maenporth is a great place to enjoy a cuppa at the cafe, or spend time swimming, snorkelling or walking the coastal path. There is also a restaurant with a renowned chef and stunning coastal views. Nearby is the busy port of Falmouth, with its prestigious marinas, sailing events and calendar of activities in Events Square under the watchful eye of the National Maritime Museum. Sea Shanty Week, Falmouth Week, The Oyster Festival, markets, carnivals and much more to delight everyone. Take one of the local ferry services over to St Mawes, Flushing or an evening pleasure cruise down the Helford River. Take the popular sea safari to watch marine wildlife including dolphins, basking sharks, seals and much more. Philleigh Way Cookery School offers Cornish cookery classes.

Pendennis Castle sits proudly on the headland opposite its sister castle at St Mawes. Both castles were built by Henry VI to protect the important Fal Estuary and Carrick Roads. They are run by English Heritage and host a number of events throughout the year including battle re-enactments and jousting. The area is popular for sailing, watersports, walking, golf at Budock Vean, and cycling with many trails and bike hire available locally. Miles of stunning coastal paths will lead you to quiet coves and unspoilt beaches. Beach 1 mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

Superb accommodation in a fantastic location. The property is spacious with all modern conveniences. The outside patio and beautiful garden are an added bonus with French doors that open on to the patio from the lounge and bedroom. Tim and Alison the owners, met us on our arrival and couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful. The welcome pack was very generous and a lovely gesture. (this included a cream tea, bottle of wine, homemade preserve, milk and sachets of tea and coffee) We would have no hesitation in recommending this property and can't wait to return.

We stayed in this wonderful house for 2 weeks in July. We received a very warm welcome and felt immediately at home. All the rooms were large for 2 people and very well equipped. We particularly enjoyed sitting in the conservatory with pretty views of the garden. We have been staying in self-catering places for many years and this was the best one by far. This isn't just somewhere to lay your head at night, but a house where we enjoyed spending time. I am sure the log burner would be lovely in cooler months. Sincere thanks to the owners for sharing part of their home.

The cottage was prepared to a very high standard of equipment and fittings. The rooms are of a good size with a lovely conservatory overlooking the garden. The very nice owners live next door and would be on hand if there were any problems. The cottage is next door to Glendurgan Gardens, National Trust and just a few hundred yards from Trebah Gardens. Both well worth a visit.

What a fantastic cottage. We could not fault it at all, it was like being at home. We felt so comfortable as soon as we walked through the door. The gardens were fantastic and we loved to sit out on the patio whether it was first thing in the morning for breakfast or the evening. Look out for the little robin he tends to join you when out on the patio. The owners made us feel very comfortable and welcoming and nothing was to much trouble if we needed help. We have stayed in numerous cottages over the years but this is far the best. We can't recommend the cottage enough and will definitely return.

WOW, this is the only way to describe this cottage. From the moment you drive through the "secret" entrance and wind your way towards the house, you know you are in for something special and we weren't disappointed. The accommodation was superb, very comfortable, beautifully furnished and contained everything you could possibly want. The patio was a beautiful sun trap with wonderful views, the owners gardens were lovingly maintained. We have been "taking" cottages, all over the country, for many, many years and this one is way and above the best we have been to. The nearby pub provided decent "pub grub" meals in an "old pub" friendly atmosphere. The nearby (as in next door!) Glendurgan Gardens and Trebah are lovely relaxing places to visit, so all in all this cottage is highly recommended.
