Beautiful location with fantastic views but cottage was very cold even with central heating and calor gas heater on, double bed was very small and squeezed into small room, beautiful roll top bath but no hot water !!! Cottage information folder asked visitors to leave bathroom etc clean, but the whole cottage needed a good clean and remove the cobwebs !

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We are saddened to hear that you were disappointed with some aspects of your stay at Gill Edge Cottages. The temperature was very cold, below zero in fact, and there were very cold winds too. The Yorkshire Dales can have extreme weather in January and early February. The central heating was left on all day until midnight. I did go into the property to check everything was OK and show you how to light the fire and again to change the gas bottle. Had you told me it was cold, I could have checked the radiators which all have thermostat controls on them which may have needed turning up. I could have checked if any needed bleeding or got the plumber who only lives in the Village. There is a thermostat on the wall to control the whole Cottage. Unfortunately, you also failed to mention the hot water issue. I live next door to this Cottage and would have gladly gone back to sort out the hot water which is ran from an immersion heater. It turns on in the bathroom, the shower is electric. I'm sorry you found cobwebs, the Cottage had been empty for a few days and cobwebs can appear overnight in these stone cottages. The double bed is a standard; the property is advertised as having a double bed, not a king, which had a new mattress only a few weeks ago. The bedroom is small but has a chest of drawers, chair and wardrobe plus a TV. It’s very nicely decorated with Farrow & Ball paint and has good quality bedding. The Cottage has everything you could need including full size freezer and dishwasher, and plenty of good quality crockery, serving dishes and glasses. We were disappointed to only receive the score of 4/10 in this area.

Beautiful location, beautiful cottage, lovely owner but we were both bitten by what the doctor has said is bed bug bites. I have reported this so hopefully the owner has had this checked out.

We enjoyed our stay despite the weather; lovely location. One toilet, located in the bathroom for four people was a bit difficult and it would have helped to have beeen told about a second one located a few doors down in a utility room (we eventually found it ourselves). That apart we liked everything about it and it was an excellent base for a walking holiday.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner:- Thank you for your comments. As advertised the property has one bathroom with toilet so we are surprised these guests expected more than one. The second one they mention was not for use of that cottage, but belongs to the equestrian centre, but was ok if they found it useful however it was not part of their rental which is why they were not made aware of it.

There were a few things in the cottage that did not work and it really needed a good clean - there were cobwebs everywhere and the shelves were piled high with damp leaflets and old books. However, the location made up for it and watching the wildlife from the dining room every morning.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback. I cannot find anything in the cottage that does not work. I live next to the cottage so can replace anything that doesn't work had you told me. The cottage is very clean with hard floors downstairs and new carpets upstairs. There is a new bathroom which is shiny clean. I'm sorry if you found cobwebs but it is a stone cottage and it is the season for spiders. If the property is empty for a week, they soon get spinning but will double check before guest’s arrival. We have a book shelf which has a variety of books on novels, crafts, children's books and games. There is a drawer underneath for leaflets which guests add to.
