We truly enjoyed the stay! The cottage is nicely tucked away in a peaceful setting but still in walking distance from Hawes and Wensleydale creamery. Ideal location! The house had some much information on the area-maps, brochures and a splendid collection of DVD's for us to unwind in evening! The welcome tray with cookies and tea was much appreciated and we felt a home during whole our stay!

I have stayed in Hawes many times and love its beauty and friendly locals. But i regret to say i wont stay at Gayle farmhouse again The reason's being is no outlook at the windows looking straight at other cottage back and front no garden . Upon arrival no toilet roll left no coal in coal bucket and no fire lighters which apparantly should have been replenished. The cottage was cold at times despite the storage heaters. The tv kept going on to standbye and was hard to turn back on. Would not normally watch tv but weather very bad whilst their. Sofas very uncomfortable. Kitchen very small even though the house has 4 bedrooms and an attick bedroom. House had evidence of damp and slug trails evident in kitchen and laundry room first thing in the morning. Very steep steps would not be suitable for elderly if mobility is a struggle at times. Plus side allows to take a dog. This property is in need of renovation in parts of the house. There are nicer places to stay in Hawes that allows a dog. I will still go to Hawes as i love it but unfortunatly i will not stay here. The caretaker came to sort the tv out and apoligised for not having at least one toilet roll in the house and nit having the coal bucket filled or fire lighters but this cottage needs improving as the price we paid was expensive and i am sure we could find better

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Really sorry you had such a bad experience. We do try our best to keep the cottage warm with double glazing and roof insulation, but weather is very changeable (the previous week was much warmer) and you had snow, rain and hail while you were there. So sorry about the firelighters, but we rely on people to replace them after use. Not being able to light a fire on arrival obviously made things worse. There are certain things we cannot do much about, but previous reviews speak for themselves. Our caretaker did take immediate action and apologised wholeheartedly.

Delightful cottage in a great location. The cottage: Spacious and comfortable living room, plenty of dvds, books and places of interest. Also a good selection of board games. We had an open fire one night and it was very cosy. Good sized separate dining room. The kitchen is a galley kitchen, but accomdates 2 easily, and is very well stocked with everything you will need in terms of utensils, crockery etc Utility room for boots and coats and a large bathroom. 2 good sized singles, a big double and a massive double room. We had no problems with the beds, all very comfy. Overall. Thought has gone into making your stay very comfortable with all you would ever need Location The village itself is dry. But 20 secs out of the front door you have great views of the Dale and the village of Hawes. Hawes is a 15 min stroll with a wide selection of pubs and shops. Remember you are in a rural setting and don't get caught out at the weekend with early closing. There is no nearby Tesco, just 2 well stocked shops The nearby woodmill is interesting, but not really for kids. The Creamery is well worth a visit (everyday in our case) and there are lots of other nearby attractions. We were 2 groups mum n dad off walking each day, with grandparents looking after grandkids, mainly locally. Both groups quite happy. I would recommend this as a place to stay Ps the directions are perfect
