we had a fabulous weekend with family lots of walking and our four year old grandaughter climbed her first mountain Stickle Pike. The weather was lovely we even sat in the garden and had lunch, not bad for mid March. The rest of the week we had on our own so a few visits to the pub for lunch was in order, we will certainly visit Ganny House again.

A second stay at this wonderful spot on Birker. The views and solitude are perfect.Walk from the door to dramatic waterfalls and valleys - just what we wanted Do wish the back door access to the garden was safer rather than walking across a boulder. Would it be possible to order more wood for the fire in advance and have some kindling already in the fire basket ? Thank you so much

What makes this holiday is the location. the situation and views are absolutely stunning. The cottage itself is ok. Being on a farm it will inevitably have some dirt and dust but it did not feel very clean. The shared garden is a pain, especially if one family does not like dogs. the fenceing is not sheep proof - sheep were in the back garden - so i am not sure this is really dog friendly. the bathroom leaked into the utility room below. Ideally there would be a seperate bathroom but that is not really practical in the building. But what a location !!

Ganny cottage is very charming, and is set in absolutely beautiful countryside. The location is quite remote, which we really enjoyed.

A perfect combination of spectacular, remote location with comfortable and well spec'd accommodation. Highly recommended if you're prepared to travel for shopping, restaurants, etc.

Remote location with no wifi but that's what we wanted.... get away from the world for a few days! The views from the house are stunning, the house has everything (apart from wifi and a mobile signal of course) and was perfect for us. The evening walk to the pub in Boot in the rain via the waterfall was amazing. Some previous guests had complained in the guestbook about the weather; it's the Lake District, what do you expect?! I'd definitely stay there again. Finally, the huge aga in the kitchen was fantastic for heating the whole cottage and cooking, brilliant!

Brilliant for walking etc but be careful as it takes a while to drive anywhere and if your car is low to ground then will scrap the floor as track is very rough! Lovely cottage comfy beds and great aga for cooking. Really enjoy the break.

Brought the kids and Grandma along. All had a lovely time. Aga was fantastic. For families with children - just a precaution not to disturb the sheep in the fields - city slickers that we are we had no idea that running around in the fields would unsettle the sheep and were told this by a farmer who lives nearby. Nice to have: kites, walking boots, a good book and your own food/bbq supplies. Bath towels & some toilet paper/kitchen towels provided but good to bring your own. No internet so we arranged wifi hotspot off our mobile phones for urgent last minute bookings at London & Heathrow but otherwise, the whole idea of coming here was to get away from all that connectivity - and it worked! The housekeeper was wonderfully helpful, coming around when we called and helping us work out how the fridge and DVD work and giving us tips on climbing Scafell Pike.
